Decoupage Pencil Jar -- quick and easy doll craft

If your doll needs a way to corral all her pencils and pens -- and if she has a crafty streak like you -- then making this fast, fun decoupage jar might be just the ticket!

You'll need a small glass to decorate, scraps of colored paper (tissue paper works wonderfully) and some Mod Podge. Also stickers, if you feel so inclined.

I went to my local thrift store and found two pieces to decorate: a shot glass, and something I suspect was once a votive candle holder. Both are a great size for American Girl dolls.

Once you have everything gathered, roll up your sleeves and get crafting!

For the shot glass, I decided to use mostly triangles. Hexagons, squares, or random shapes would look great too. Randomness, after all, is part of this craft's charm...

Once you have the whole glass covered with paper, give it a final coat of Mod Podge to seal everything, and let it dry overnight.

I only added a few rectangular stickers to the shot glass -- but for the votive holder, I just wanted to use a single piece of fun printed tissue paper, so stickers took the stage!

I mod-podged on the printed tissue, then once it was dry, I stuck on some long, stripey stickers and a few pretty flowers. The overall look is much more polished -- it's so hard to pick a favorite!

Oh yes, and don't forget to load up the glass with your pens, colored pencils, and markers!

PS: wondering where all those colored pencils came from? Some of these are short pencils from the school supplies section, but there's also a really easy way to make pretend colored pencils from wooden dowels, which I'll show you next week.... :D

I thought the pencils were just ones you’d used and were sharpened down to the nubs. :)
