I enjoy many different time eras and have fun imagining people living their everyday lives. But what I often have to think about when making doll clothes is how easily the girls can put the clothes on and just enjoy playing instead of struggling to dress their dolls.

I love all eras of fashion but my favorite would have to be the late 30s to early 50s which included the war years. Lots of things were scarce and rationed then and women learned to embellish with just aqbout anything. There was a lot of shabby chic in those times out of necessity instead of desire. I would love to see patterns that feature embellishments that are repurposed items instead of made for.

My favorite era of clothing and fashion is the late colonial period, as depicted in Colonial Williamsburg. I’d love to see a pattern for the clothes the common people wore during that time. I know it’s an outfit consisting of a skirt, a blouse of one style, a white scarf worn over the clothing, and an apron. I can’t remember if there was a scarf or a mob-cap that they wore over their hair, or if it was the lady’s choice, or the custom of the town. There are several patterns for the fancy clothing of the time, but none for the common people.

My favorite historical era is the 1930’s through 1950’s. We could use an underwear pattern for that time period—the full slips, the little white tank type undershirts we all had to wear until we were mature enough for a bra—and also the infamous white training bra with the stretchy but not shaped cup area. Plus old fashioned panties and maybe pettipants, though those were more 60’s. Thanks for all you do for us!
