My traditions is we don’t put up our Christmas tree till the Friday after thanksgiving, then the kids and me decorate the Christmas tree. On Christmas Eve we bake cookies to leave out for daddy Santa to drink with milk , I don’t wrap gift until kids are In bed . when they wake up in the morning they are so excited. We make breakfast and eat and remember family and friend then we open our present. At dinner we have someone pray and tell thank God for the past year and new year.

Each year, before gifts are opened, our family gathers to read the Christmas story in Luke, chapter 2. We finish by singing Happy Birthday to Jesus. This helps us to focus on the true meaning of the holiday.

My favorite Christmas tradition is something I started when I was in college. Every year I make an ornament it has been different every time, I make them for family and special friends. I look forward to deciding every year what I plan to make, making them and seen the expression on peoples faces when they open them. To me it is all about giving more so than receiving. I really enjoy going to visit during the holidays and seen all the ornaments I have made mixed amongst the other special ornaments on my families Christmas trees.

My favorite tradition is every year I have allowed my children to open one gift Christmas eve. It is always things to get them excited to go to bed. Pj’s for sure. Some times I have given a quilt or pillow or a new stuffed toy. I have even made doll pj’s and accessories to match what my daughters have received. Even though my kids know what they are going to be opening (bedtime stuff) they get super excited. I love watching them put on new pj’s and get excited to go to bed and wait for santa to arrive.

“My favorite Holiday Tradition was … “Watching my child perform in her Christmas pageant at school.

Unfortunately, this year my daughter’s school adopted the idea of removing anything related to religion from their curriculum, Christmas was the specific thing to go. No Christmas pageant, no exchanging gifts, no class Christmas party. I was very sad to see my daughter not having the advantage of this specific tradition, so I started a new one with AG dolls. AG dolls have such good traditional stories and themes. with their books and collectibles. I can’t afford all the clothes and accessories so we did a lot of crafting and sewing prior to Christmas. On Christmas morning I put all the new doll clothes, wrapped individually, around a tiny doll sized Christmas tree on my dining table, with my daughter’s AG dolls sitting around the tree, anxiously awaiting the opening of gifts. The big smile on my daughters face was adorable and the work was worth the effort.

Most of the outfits were patterns from Pixie Faire but I created a few of my own. My husband made a lot of furniture that I designed and did the finishing touches, including an art and sewing studio. Next week we are making her a stage and runway so she can have fashion shows with all of her new outfits. My little one has now shown an interest in sewing so I have started her on using the sewing machine with patterned dot to dot practice sheets. I hope by next year she can begin creating her own easy outfits to give out for gifts.

Thanks Pixie Faire for all the great ideas and patterns.
