Hi, I do not have a favorite designer because they are all good, I just try to put together items that best reflect the live style of my grand daughter so that she will feel like her doll also does what she does. She loves getting clothes and items that go along with her life and the life style of her friends.

My favorite designers are the ones at 1230 Mulberry Street and Keepers Dolly Duds. I have several of their patterns and oftentimes mix and match one dress top with another pattern bottom. Both designers provide very easy to follow instructions. I tend to take shortcuts if a pattern is difficult to follow, but with these I have stayed on track and have used these patterns over and over again. Each piece of clothing just a bit different from the last Love them!

I love looking at pictures of different historical time periods to get ideas. There are so many cute patterns on your website and Etsy that celebrate various aspects of time past. So fun combining 2 of my favourite interests: crafts (sewing/knitting/crocheting) and history!!
Thanks for doing the 12 Days of Christmas give-away contests. So very thoughtful of you :)
All the best of the season and Happy New Year to everyone at Pixie Faire!

I must admit to liking Coco Chanel, despite her Nazi sympathies during WW2. I like her beliefs on making fashions for women “feminine but functional.” I hope someday to take the sewing and pattern drafting classes so I can make similar garments for my collection of dolls.

As for doll clothes, I like pretty much everything here on Pixie Faire. I especially like the “Forever 18 Inches” Infinity Dress, because it’s similar to Butterick 5606, which I made several of for myself.

“I use a brother SQ9185… The thing I like most about it is my Husband and Daughter got it for me for no reason at all.” I do wish, however , I could figure out all the different feet and stitches :) . I’m pretty sure it does just about everything I need automatically , but so far I’ve used 2 stitches out of 50ish.

I don’t have a favorite designer. I look for things I like and that fit my taste. I look pretty much everywhere for inspiration. When designing for the 18" dolls, I like to look at current 7-16 size girls clothing and pre-teen clothing in stores and on websites, so I can see what kids are wearing and base my doll designs on that.

Inspiration comes from classic movies and television period drama! I have used my phone to snap pictures of vintage fashion from TCM and Masterpiece Theater, for example, so I could sketch the designs and plan patterns. The lines, the detailing, and the trimmings can be breathtaking in their complexity or stunning in their simplicity. You get the benefit of many designers from Jean Louis, the Furses, Cecil Beaton, Edith Head (with many her many associates) and Colleen Atwood and so many more! And though I’d never attempt their work, Erte and Bob Mackie…

No favorite designer here – they are all so talented. I get inspired by mixing patterns and pictures but mostly my 7 year old does the trick but so much more in the recent months than ever. You see the beginning of this school year we made a deal … she could dress herself. Now if you could have seen some of the outfits this child had put together – it was scary at times. I’m not talking mixing patterns or colors – I’m talking a bikini swim top with a flared front sweater a dance tutu and knee high boots with her very blingy beret – TO SCHOOL PEOPLE! I wish I had pictures. Anyway we had a talk about what is appropriate for school attire and some ground rules and the deal was sealed over a cup of hot cocoa (minus the rum for her). Since early September I must say I am amazed – just watching her growth in coordinating her closet, her attachment to her things (old & new) and her innate ability to accessorize (she did not get that from me) and even her suggestions at the fabric store and even when I’m dressing – I’m pretty sure she is the designer in our family at 7 & 1/2 years old. And of course when she finds an outfit she adores the next sentence from her little lips is – can we make this exactly for my doll? You know mom that’s what she’s for – to look just like me! There is my inspiration! I wish you all happy and safe holidays!
