Freebie Friday, (February 13, 2015), Help Us Spread The Word

Hi everyone,

On Friday (February 13th, 2015) we'll celebrate Susan B. Anthony - the American civil rights activist that worked to achieve the 19th Ammendment to the American Constitution. February 15th is Susan B. Anthony's birthday! Our special pattern is being made available for free from Heidi Mittiga of Flossie Potter Patterns

More About Heidi and Flossie Potter Patterns, (In her own words),

"Paper and tape," was my standard answer as a child when asked what I'd like for my birthday or Christmas. I'm sure my mother was baffled, but no game or toy was as satisfying to me as the reams and rolls I went through while creating things at my little desk. I learned about making doll clothes from my mother and grandmother, who used to sew matching outfits for my dolls and me -- sometimes with a pattern, but often without. But it wasn't until my own daughter received an American Girl® doll some 20 years ago, that my passion for creating doll clothes and accessories took flight. I was shocked when people asked if they could buy some of the outfits I designed. After a while, the idea came to me of producing and selling my patterns for other people to sew. But for many years it remained nothing more than an unreachable dream -- until the digital age arrived. Now my paper and tape can go anywhere in the world! Flossie Potter Patterns became a reality on February 8, 2011, and my first published pattern, "Susan B. Anthony," came out in 2013. It is listed as a Freebie Friday this week in honor of Ms. Anthony's birthday, February 15, 1820."

More About The Susan B. Anthony Pattern

The design for this pattern was based on a photo of Susan B. Anthony, champion of women's rights, at the California Campaign in 1896. She lived at a time when women, especially married women, had very few rights. Under the law, they were considered the "property" of their husbands, and, as such, could be mistreated by them with no recourse. Any property they may have inherited would belong solely to their husbands, they had no right to keep any money they earned, and they even had no legal claim to their own children. Ms. Anthony reasoned that, if women could gain the right to vote, progress could be made toward gaining the other rights they so deserved. Unfortunately, this inspirational woman who tirelessly travelled, lectured, and organized rallies on behalf of Woman Suffrage did not live to see the passing of the 19th Amendment. But her legacy lives on. The "Susan B. Anthony" PDF sewing pattern for 18" dolls includes a blouse, skirt, and fully-lined jacket.

I don’t know who Susan B Anthony is, but I like the detail of the dress… early 1900’s, I assume. Looks like a little bit of a challenge. I’m thinking I’ll research Susan B Anthony, and send the google search to my 16 year old granddaughters so they’ll learn about her. I’m sure she must be important.
I’m not an American, as you may have guessed.
