Free Doll Clothes Pattern Friday (September 23) Help Us Spread The Word

Hi everyone,

On Friday (September 23, 2016) we'll offer a free doll clothes pattern from Shari Fuller of Thimbles and Acorns as special one-day only event - our gift to you! This much loved pattern was even recently featured in Piecework Magazine! We'd love to have you help us spread the word and be sure to get your copy, an $8.99 value!

More About Shari Fuller and Thimbles And Acorns, (in her own words).

My grandma gave me my first sewing lesson when I was about eight years old. I had been fascinated with her sewing for as long as I could remember and was so excited when she gave me a doll pattern and sent me to her sewing closet to pick out just the right fabric for my first project. Sewing was a way for me to connect with my grandma, and although she may not have realized it at the time, this gift she gave me helped me become a better student. History became more exciting as I became captivated by the dynamic fashions through the ages. This is what Thimbles and Acorns is all about; building relationships and encouraging learning.

More information about the pattern:

The 1790 Open Pelisse and Regency Dress Designed To Fit 18 Inch Dolls Such As American Girl®: You can create a beautiful historical dress for your doll with the 1790s Open Pelisse and Regency Dress Pattern by Thimbles and Acorns!  This PDF pattern will  fit most 18-inch dolls.

Around the turn of the century, Romantic and Grecian dress styles that were lighter and simpler than those of past periods became fashionable. Hair styles gentled, stays and petticoats were minimalized, and gowns in plain, subdued colors featured a high waistline just below the bust.

This pattern features a 1790s style Pelisse with a front belt closure that sits just below the breast, a sailor collar, and a double box pleat in the back. The 3/4 inch sleeves have tucks at the inside elbow, lending a graceful curve to the sleeve.

Supplies Needed:

Dress:  1/2 yard semi sheer fabric such as organdy, silk or muslin.  1/2 yard lightweight fabric such as cotton law, silk, linen or batiste.  Not suitable for knits. Dress Lining:  1/6 yard lightweight fabric such as cotton batiste or muslin (scrap pieces or fat quarter work well).  Lining may be white or another color that compliments the dress fabric.  Not suitable for knits.

Pelisse:  1/3 yard lightweight fabric such as lawn, silk, linen, or batiste. Not suitable for knits. Pelisse Lining: 1/6 yard lightweight fabric such as cotton baliste or muslin (scrap pieces or fat quarter work well).  Lining may be white or another color that compliments the dress fabric.  Not suitable for knits.

Closures:  For dress, 3 size 4/0 snaps. Instead of snaps, 2 inches of 1/2 inch wide velcro or 1/4 inch buttons may be used instead.  For Pelisse, 2 - 1/4 inch buttons.

Finishing: 3 small buttons to conceal snaps, 22-inches of 1/2 inch ribbon to tie at the waist of the dress (optional)

Skill Level:  Intermediate
