Freebie Friday (Aug 19, 2016) Help Us Spread The Word

Hi everyone,

On Friday (August 19, 2016) we'll will offer a pattern from Shari Fuller of Thimbles and Acorns for free as special one-day only event rather than having the "normal" Freebie Friday voting. We'd love to have you help us spread the word and be sure to get your copy, a $10.99 value!

More About Shari Fuller and Thimbles And Acorns, (in her own words).

My grandma gave me my first sewing lesson when I was about eight years old. I had been fascinated with her sewing for as long as I could remember and was so excited when she gave me a doll pattern and sent me to her sewing closet to pick out just the right fabric for my first project. Sewing was a way for me to connect with my grandma, and although she may not have realized it at the time, this gift she gave me helped me become a better student. History became more exciting as I became captivated by the dynamic fashions through the ages. This is what Thimbles and Acorns is all about; building relationships and encouraging learning.

More information about the pattern:

The 1880 Mary and Laura Dress For 16 and 18 Inch Dolls:  Born in 1867, Laura Ingalls Wilder had the privilege of witnessing a whole period of American history; the frontier, the woods, the Indian country of the great plains, the frontier towns, the building of railroads in wild, unsettled country, homesteading and farmers coming in to take possession. Later in her life, she began recording these memories in her classic “Little House on the Prairie” books, preserving a first hand account of those significant years in American History. The “Mary and Laura” dresses are a reproduction of the dresses the girls wore in a picture taken around 1880, the year recorded so vividly in her book “The Long Winter”.

Now your 16" and 18" doll can dress as Mary or Laura in this replica of the Ingalls' dress' by Thimbles and Acorns  This pattern includes instructions for an overdress, an underskirt, and a hand stitched hankie to tuck in the side pocket.

This bundled PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 16" A Girl for All Time® dolls and 18" American Girl® dolls.  Both the 18" and 16" patterns are also available individually on Pixie Faire.

Thank you for this dress pattern. I loved the Little House on the Prairie books as a child. I always imagined my grandmother as Laura because she was born in the 1890’s. She also became a one room school teacher when she was very young. I started sewing on her Singer treadle sewing machine. How I loved making that old thing sing. I so wish I had it today. I hope I can do the pattern justice in honor of my grandmother.

Thimbles & Acorns is my absolute favorite! I bought a couple of Shari’s patterns several years ago. The attention to detail in her designs is beyond amazing! I also read and loved all of the little house books, so this is a very exciting pattern for me. Thanks Shari & Cinnamon for your generosity.

Thank you Shari. The beauty of sewing these outfits for my grandaughters dolls has been the special time we all have together talking about these beautiful clothes. I have one grandaughter who has learning disabilities and the clothes are an incentive for her to do a reading program with me daily. Thank you for your generosity. This will be a big hit. God bless you.

This is a great pattern, Shari! It is very generous of you to share it with everyone. I already have it and can honestly say it is fantastic and easy to create. I made it for a friend’s granddaughter for Christmas. She took one look at it and said it reminded her of her favorite book series, “Little House on the Prairie.” She put it immediately on her AG doll. And it was a perfect fit. Then she pulled out out a vintage style blouse and put it on the doll with the underskirt. She was so tickled. She said it was like getting two different outfits in one. Both ways of wearing it looked authentic on the doll. Because I made the outfit in blue gingham, she said it was just like Laura would have worn. I wish you could have heard the quiet awe in her voice. It totally choked me up. Remembering the smile on her face still warms my heart. All because of your wonderful pattern. Many thanks! Everybody — you are in for a real treat!

I was 5 when my grandmother gave me sewing lessons. She still used a pedal sewing machine. She taught me to use the material scraps from the dresses she made for my 3 older sisters and myself to make doll clothes. I have enjoyed making doll clothes whether sewn or crocheted.
