The doublet was worn in Europe between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries and it changed...
I found this pattern a little bit tricky, so i went back to check and noticed that it was for an advance sewer, and I am definitely not an advanced sewer! Over all, considering my lack of skill, i was able to complete this pattern and the outcome was ok. I made the pants again, and did the tricky bits, (fly and leg extensions) the way that was easiest for me, and i was much happier with the end result. Over all a good pattern, but definitely for the advanced sewer.
This pattern is pretty cute, but after sewing one pair of shorts according the directions I decided to change it up quite a bit. I did not care for the finish in the front with the two flaps-too bulky so I just cut an extension on the front pieces. One side I turned under and for the Velcro and the other I turned up and covered with the Velcro-no raw edges. I also added the waistband first and then added the Velcro to the entire front and waist. Did not like trying to get a good curved finish around the front pocket just by turning under so I faced that with a thin fabric and got a nice curve. The other option is to square off the front pocket. The waist band stuck out away from the waist in the back so I added some elastic in the back only. I also faced the side pocket top flap to avoid raw edges. The final product is pretty cute but I would prefer not to have to make so many changes to the pattern. Overall I did not increase the side seams or make a higher back waist as did the other review as I like the baggier look. Next I will try pants without the zippers.
Easy to construct with good instructions. Took a lot of altering to fit American Girl - higher back waist and wider side seams.
