Found in an old 50’s doll trunk and made by a special Grandmother, the original dress was rather tattered and needed a wash but still evoked warm memories and new inspiration for an 18 inch doll pattern. The sewing techniques of the era used for the dress make it quick and easy to sew to completion in a short time. The dresses for this PDF sewing pattern are made of cotton and feature an unlined, all-in-one bodice and short capped Dolman sleeve application that is complimented with contrasting Hong Kong Finish trim at neck and sleeve edges. The skirt, waistband and straps are attached to the bodice as one unit for a quick and easy dress. The back closure is fashioned for hook and loop tape or snaps, the button front is decorative. The dress can also make the perfect Dorothy costume. Use a small blue check gingham, then just lengthen the straps to the waist, add red shoes, a basket and of course, her dog too.
Recommended Fabrics: Light woven cottons or similar fabrics
-1/2 Yd 45” fabric for skirt and trim
-1/4 Yd contrast fabric for bodice
-(2) 1/4 to 1/2 inch buttons depending on dress
-3-5 snaps or 5” X 1/4” (or 3/8”) of hook and loop tape (hook & loop)
Skill Level: Easy Intermediate

This was fun to make and very simple . I am making doll clothes for my granddaughters xmas present. She will love it.
I like how the dress looks...haven't tried to make it yet.
Nice pattern .I like the way you can make this dress several different ways. Looks good with or with out outer skirt
Loved working with this pattern. Clear instructions and finished product is so pretty. Only error was: needed to cut two waistbands instead of one as undicated on pattern piece.
This pattern was easy to follow and understand! Makes a beautiful end product.
