This darling skirt design for 18-inch dolls will be a great addition to her wardrobe! Do you like ruffles but not the seemingly endless basting and gathering involved? This skirt’s first choice is made with circles, serged hems, and a professional elastic waistband for a quick and easy, ready to wear in minutes skirt.
There are two options for hemming.
The first option is a hem done on a serger. This type of stylized hem is fast and easy and less tedious than a folded hem. It also offers a more polished look than the second option (below) for those who prefer a more finished look. The style was chosen to coordinate with the Sofie’s Bell Sleeve top that uses the exposed serged seam allowances and hems as a stylized look.
The second option is to not hem at all by using a fabric that does not fray. This option is an easy, fast way to whip up a skirt that looks meant to be. If you like this technique but have a fabric that might fray a bit then using a fray stop product along the edges of the skirt layers will give a clean look. (Some fabrics may show a fray stop product stain, therefore, fabric should be tested before using to be sure the look is acceptable.) Even frayed edges can have a look all their own so if you don’t mind unfinished or are going for that look leaving the hem undone, even on fabrics that fray, might be an option.
…..Also, you can always use the conventional hemming method if desired or add lace or other trim at hemline.
Pair it with “Sofie’s Bell Sleeve Top” with serged hemlines for a complete outfit.
