Thank you soooo much for the lovely Anna doll! She arrived today and I was very surprised! I didn’t know I had won until today. LOL! My youngest Grand daughter loves dolls and loves the Frozen movie. Her Birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I know she will love this sweet doll for her Birthday. Her older sister is learning to sew and although she isn’t into dolls much she will love sewing for her Sister’s doll, I am betting! Thanks again!

My favorite holiday tradition is in my family we do a grab bag exchange and try to come up with a theme. This year was “these are a few of my favorite things”. It is so much fun to see what everyone gets when you apply a theme. Now just need to keep coming up with more ideas lol.

Spending Christmas Eve with my 84 year old parents in their basement. The family has grown to 26 people and we exchange gifts by picking names. Last year was Christmas bulbs and this year was food that started with the first letter of your name. My dad still did the ham and everyone else brought food. He will not have it any other place even with his heart attack a week before. I am soooo thankful to have them both for another Christmas.

My favourite tradition is setting up our Representation – the Nativity set. When the children were little, we would read the various parts of the story from the Word and move the figures along their journeys as we read.
Herod’s palace is a black silhouette with coloured tissue covering the openings and backlit with a single small flickering bulb.
The wise men with their camels always started out in the east in November, moving toward Bethlehem each night with the star moving ahead of them. They spent the nights at an oasis with a mirrored watering hole that has a small flat dish of water sitting on top of it. By morning the water had always disappeared (with the help of evaporation). This was the start of the magic of Christmas to the little ones. The children always told us that the camels had filled up on water getting ready for the next days’ journey.
Meanwhile, the shepherds are watching their flocks in the hills around Bethlehem.
Mary and Joseph start their journey in the middle of December, arriving in Bethlehem Christmas Eve where they went into the stable of the inn.
Christmas morning the infant was in the manger when the children woke up.
It culminated with the departure of the wise men leaving Bethlehem and returning to the east by another route, avoiding Herod’s palace.
The highlight of Christmas is the birth of Jesus, and we wanted to focus our childrens’ attention on the reason for the season. The setting up of the Representation made this possible.
We have the set that the ladies of our church made in the 1951 by pouring Plaster of Paris into moulds and then hand painting all the hardened pieces. My parents received this set as a wedding gift.
Sharing this with my children and grandchildren is a true joy and sets the tone for the season for our family.
Happy Christmas, everyone!

Making cookies in a jar (Cookie mix in a mason jar) as a family. Everyone loves this gift. We even get requests. Filling the jars so they look festive, decorating the recipe cards and attaching them with colorful ribbon. The best part is giving our friends and family something we made for them, not just bought in a store.

My favorite holiday tradition is hosting our family Christmas each year. My Grammie always hosted it when we were growing up and as she and Grampie got older and I had a husband and children, and as it took more and more effort for them to host each year, I volunteered to let Grammie “pass the torch” of hosting and she graciously accepted my offier. Although Grammie and Grampie are gone now and 2 of my siblings and their families have moved away so our group is small right now – 7 family members – we still get together to celebrate and enjoy Christmas dinner and gift giving and spending time together!!

My favorite holiday tradition is when our extended family gets together. The food, the laughter, the love of being together. This year we had 4 babies. Twins age 8 months. 1, age 6 months and 1 just 2 weeks old. Add in a 4 year old and a 2 1/2 year old and you have a fun Christmas. So much better with little ones again. My sisters in law make stockings for everyone. We adults do a gift exchange and the funniest part is an additional gag gift exchange. Each year we try to outdo each other for the worst gift!
