I learned to sew and love sewing while watching a wonderful older lady take scraps and make beautiful outifts for me. She sewed with love, and it enveloped my heart. By the time I was in high school, I was doing the same thing for special little girls. My newest joy has been helping young girls learn to sew and love it. This would be a great book to share with them as I help them know how to make their own masterpieces!

I love sewing because it offers me a challenge. How can I take this piece of fabric and turn it into something unique and fashionable? Sewing offers me an escape from my everyday life-it’s something that’s there waiting for me when I have a few free minutes or (even less often with children)-a few hours. It’s what I do for fun. I love to make clothes for my children and for others. The look on their faces when they see something homemade is priceless. It gives me great joy when my daughters come up to me and say “Wow mom, you’re really talented. You’re great at sewing!” Sewing simply makes me smile.

I love sewing because…I can literally gift myself or my loved ones something new every day ! I mostly make doll clothes, so it’s a challenge to get some things to fit,but I love that there’s always something new to learn, a new skill to master, a new tool to employ. Even the people in my life who’ve moved past needing miniature garments love that I can fix or alter things at nearly a moment’s notice. Now that things (for us, at least) have taken a financial downturn, my stash is providing all that at no cost. I love sewing !

“Why I love sewing”.. I love sewing because it is a craft passed on to me from my mother and that makes sewing priceless it’s very relaxing and comforting for me to see something that I created. It allows me to express my creativeness with every item that I sew. Sewing is something that expresses love in every stitch because my items are all created one of a kind by me compared to what is in the store that everyone else has. To me that makes sewing truly rewarding, special and unique.

I love sewing because it gives me a chance to play with gorgeous fabrics and pretty buttons and bows.
Sewing gives me a chance to be creative as well as creating useful and fun items (clothing, bags, costumes) for myself, my dolls and my nieces. Furthermore does it create an opportunity for me to earn extra money by selling my creations at markets.
It is a skill my mother taught me, a skill her mother taught her and a skill I hope to teach at least one of my nieces (here the book will help :). For me it is therefor also part of my heritage, a skill and a talent, something to treasure and enjoy, but also to share with future generations.
Sewing is fun, relaxing, rewarding!

Since sewing is no longer taught in most schools, children must learn from relatives who sew. It seems to be becoming a “lost art” As so many have commented, sewing and other needle crafts are a great way to spend time with a child and to teach them a valuable skill.
I have special memories of learning with relatives and friends and appreciate the time and patience of those who taught me.

I am 73 years old and sew on a 55 year old Singer. I have not ordered any patterns yet because I do not know how to download the files. (someone is coming to help me on Monday). My head is spinning around in this whole new world. Thanks for the new experience. My grand daughters love the clothes I have made for their AG dolls and are learning to sew themselves. In the past four years I have donated six fifty piece wardrobes to the auction
fundraiser at their school. My efforts so far have brought in over $2500. My goal now is to become as proficient on my Apple laptop as I am on my Singer tabletop !

Oh, I just LOVE to sew!!! I just recently started because I wanted to make some things for my niece’s doll, and well, that was all she wrote! I discovered how exciting it is to see a plain piece of fabric become something so unique & cute – & wearable!! Just thinking about the next thing I could possibly create makes me so excited, yet somehow it’s very therapeutic at the same time! Such a wonderful creative outlet! I look forward to the next time I’ll be able to sew right after I get up from one project. I have 2 baby girls & I can’t wait to do projects for them! I’d love to get this book because although I’m very excited to sew, I’m very limited in what I can do because I’m just having to figure things out on my own as I go. It would be awesome to have a pro “teaching” me with pictures & instructions (& a place where I could come back to if I forget the lesson!).

My mother sewed when I was little and use to let me do simple things to help her out. The first thing I ever mended by hand was a dress I had worn when I was 18 months old. It was then my doll’s dress. It was blue and I sewed up an “L” shaped tear on the front with brown thread. I think I was five at the time. I still sew, only now I match the thread color to the fabric. And hopefully I do a much better job. I make all sorts of clothing, even for dolls, and make a lot of crafts.
