Harriet - Edwardian Style Sailor Outfit 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

1 review   |

This cute sailor pattern, by Genniewren Designs, comprises a sailor blouse with choice of sleeve length and collar; a square necked, dropped waist, sleeveless, lined dress with center back fastening and box pleated skirt; and a cute little beret.

The collar can be made in the same fabric as the top and skirt or a contrast fabric can be used for more variety. Full instructions are given for both the ribbon trimmed and piped frilled collar options.

View A, the long sleeved version, is based on an actual Edwardian girl’s sailor outfit called a Sailor Middy. The Edwardian era ran from 1901 to 1910 during the reign of Edward VII, Queen Victoria’s eldest son.

View B, with its frilled contrast collar, owes its inspiration to a more modern period of the 20th Century. It is reminiscent of the romantic style of clothing popular in the early 1980s when frills and ruffles ruled supreme. Princess Diana often wore frilled sailor collars during the early years of her marriage.

On its own the dress makes a perfect tennis dress or cheerleader outfit, depending on your fabric choice. Or you could add embroidery to the bodice to make a pretty sundress. The pleated skirt length is easily adjustable by cutting a wider or narrower strip of fabric.

The Harriet PDF pattern is compatible with my Ship Ahoy! Sailor Outfit pattern, so you can mix and match the garments and pattern pieces to create your own customized outfit.
