Kyoto 1940s Kimono Robe 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

2 reviews   |

The Far East was very influential to Western fashions in the early 20th Century. Kimonos were commonly seen in the films and fashions of the 1930s & early 1940s. This design by Dollhouse Designs is a nod to the timeless beauty of traditional Japanese clothing and this very stylish period in US fashion. The Kyoto Robe is a fusion of influences that is easy to make and looks wonderful on your favorite dolls, historical or modern.

Featuring a pleated belt with a sweet bow in back and three collar styles, this design can be made in a variety of ways. The flared sleeves feature a contrast facing that can be worn folded back, left extra long, or standard length. Choose your favorite robe length from short, long, or extra long and make it up in woven cotton or silky fabrics, including rayon. Quilters cotton prints with satiny contrast looks especially pretty.

  • View A has an asymmetrical collar, or can be made with 2 full lapels
  • View B has a more traditional kimono neckband collar, called an eri. It can also be made with no collar, using only the facing which can be more of a boyish style with the straight belt.

It can be made from woven cotton or silky fabrics, or even knits. I use mostly cotton prints with silky or satiny accents.

Bonus: Little eye shade is included as a bonus.
