We are working hard on the content for our latest class - The Couture Sewing Academy! It goes "live" on April 1st, (no joke). So to help launch it with some fun and enthusiasm we thought we'd do a comment contest.

time but if the pattern has that word ‘couture’ in it I feel too intimidated to try it, couture usually means the pattern is difficult or the instructions are lacking.

I would love to increase my knowledge so that I can continue to produce garments of the highest quality possible. I plan to pass on all of my experiences to my granddaughter, who we gave a sewing machine for Christmas. She has always been so mesmerized by my machines. I’d like to learn couture techniques so I can learn new skills. I like all types of sewing, including sewing my own clothes, sewing theater costumes, and now sewing doll clothes. My daughter is urging me to learn to make tutus. It’s amazing how many techniques can sort of “cross-pollinate” widely varied areas of the sewing world.

I want to spark up my sewing techniques to sew for my grandaughter and my dolls. I am also thinking it would help me with alterations that people beg me to do. I don’t feel I have enough training with the finer silks and slippery fabrics. I spent 3 days in tears trying to hem a very cheaply made wedding dress for my soon to be sister in law that was 3 layers with a mermaid bottom. I swore I would never say yes again! On the brighter side when I took it to the cleaners the woman couldn’t believe I hemmed it.I just started making doll clothes again with your patterns and I have to say they are AWESOME! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to learn more.

I want to learn couture techniques so I can design and sell wonderful doll clothes I want to sell so much that I can donate some clothes for charity and to donate other sewn items to charity. I used to make Barbie clothes for toys for tots and loved the reaction I got for my donations Unfortunately my income decreased when I became depressed and disabled, so I could not afford the fabric and yarn I needed. Now that I am on etsy and ebay, I hope to have extra income to buy fabric to donate finished goods to charity. I want the donated and sold clothes to be of top quality since the recipients of donated clothes deserve to feel they deserve good quality things.

I also want to learn ’cos I love learning sewing things full-stop (I am a nerd!), and because I love making beautiful things with finesse. I am starting to sew more for Blythe, Byul, and smaller dolls, and I think the couture techniques look great on these dolls. I also want to improve/conquer some of my bad “homemade” finishes (especially with endings of ribbons, hems, etc.).

I tried the first day of the announcement to get in, but the website may not have been functional yet. Then I went to the hospital for major, major cancer surgery. I was hoping to take the class to help myself heal and to polish my techniques. I really, really hope another is offered soon.

I want to learn couture techniques because it just sounds exciting. I’ve been blessed with a desire and a gift to sew and create and I do it well. I love learning new ways and techniques. My mother and grandmother shared their love of the Lord and their love of sewing and I hold them both so dear. I used to make clothing for antique reproduction porcelain dolls, but patterns were scant with information. Mostly I just “winged it”

How exciting! This class sounds like just what I need. I have been sewing American Girl doll clothes and selling them in my Etsy store for about 2 years now. I’ve had great success offering a lower level brand – think Forever 21. I would love to offer a higher end couture line for those with a more distinqtive taste. I’ve learned so many new techniques each time I buy a pattern from the talented seamstresses (especially Cinnamon and Melanie) on Pixiefaire and would love to learn more!
