1850s Spring Gathering 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

8 reviews   |

This historical design includes 4 pieces: a Prairie Dress with long or short sleeves, a soft Flower Crown, a Bonnet with a wide or narrow brim, and a scalloped apron.
Dress - Prairie styled, with circular yoke at the neckline. Slim, Regular, & Wide waist sizes included. The very full gathered bodice is stitched to yoke & sleeves at top and to the waistband at bottom. Choose long or short sleeves, softly gathered
with elastic. Trim is optional. The skirt is gathered to the waistband and features an optional pintuck.
Bonnet - Very sweet and may be rolled back around face. Ties with self fabric or ribbon. Sunburst stitching guide included. 2 Brim widths also included.
Apron - Features a scalloped edge. Has a large pocket for
gathering flowers or other trinkets. Ties in back.
Flower Crown - Unique fabric sculpture "vines" form the base and purchased florals & greenery are attached.

Layers & Practicality. Those were hallmarks of clothing worn out on the Prairie in the 1850s. Layers kept out wind, dust, cold, and sun. Practicality was the way of life for these pioneers.
Everything was used & reused.
Still, women & girls found simple ways to look and feel pretty for special occasions Such touches were appreciated all the more for its scarcity. Small embellishments-such as embroidery or a jaunty flower in a buttonhole, were considered the mark of one’s own style, however modest it might seem today.
This design commemorates the spirit of celebration when walking on a beautiful day & counting one’s blessings and the innocent charm of a young pioneer girl gathering flowers and dreams for a special celebration with loved ones…

This PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.

Spring Gathering

So happy with how this turned out. Good instructions and the fit is perfect. My Kirsten is a little chunky and there was room enough so that the fit is perfect. Will make this in so many different ways.

1850’s Spring Gathering dress

I was very pleased with the outcome of the dress. It was easy to follow the instructions and the dress came together very nicely. With only minor changes, I could make it fit my “Our Generation” 18” doll. Thanks Pixiefaire.
