Isn’t it breathtaking to watch a pageant, a prom, or a wedding, with all of the attendees and guests admiring the beautiful contestant, or prom queen, or bride? What could be lovelier than a beautiful girl in a beautiful gown?
Such an event was the inspiration for this gorgeous gown, awash in tulle and embellished with 3D embroidered and bejeweled butterflies. I was inspired by the princess-seamed bodice and tulle lower skirt of the lovely mermaid gown my daughter-in-law wore at my son’s and her wedding.
Now this look can be yours, too, with this inspired design. You can make it full length, using all the pattern pieces, or make it short by leaving off the lower skirt. You can transform your doll into a princess with the tulle overskirt or leave it off for a cute party dress.
And, you can embellish the front and back of your dress for a breathtaking finish with beautiful machine embroidered 3D lace butterflies (free on the Pixie Faire Machine Embroidery page). Use one on the back and front or multiple butterflies in three sizes for an overall effect. Your doll will appear as if a kaleidoscope of butterflies has landed on her dress. And for added effect, hand embroider jewels to give her dress extra sparkle.
This PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®. A note on fit: This gown was designed to fit the newer, “slim” dolls, and has a close-fitting bodice and skirt. Some of the older, fuller-bodied dolls, may need an extra ¼” margin at the skirt side seams to ensure a good fit.
Complete the look with the Beautiful Butterfly Ankle Strap Shoes.
