The one-piece Saylor dress was inspired by a combination of vintage sailor-style dress patterns such as the Gunne Sax and Little Darlings versions for children from the 1980s.
This doll-sized version features a front skirt inset, a contrasting bodice with a traditional sailor collar for a two-piece look (as if wearing a blouse), a gathered skirt with trimmed inset, an array of trims, buttons, and bows, and is available with both long length sleeve and short sleeve views. Includes 2 bonus items: a tip on applying trims in a straight line, and a technique for constructing a tulle petticoat are included.

This pattern is modeled on modern American Girl® dolls with slimmer bodies, but because this dress bodice has darts, all it takes is a slight adjustment on the width of the darts to get a great fit on various thicknesses of torsos and older style Pleasant Company dolls. The version in blue is pictured on a doll with waist measurement of 10 3/4."

This PDF sewing pattern by FROG Princess Fashions is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.
Recommended Fabrics: Cottons, poly-cottons, rayon, lawn, chambray, shirting, especially stripes, nautical prints, seersucker, polka dots, dotted Swiss, and solids in variations of white and contrasting colors of your choice. Not suited for knits or heavier fabrics.

- Main Fabric—All views: ¼ yd light color fabric for dress bodice, sleeves, and skirt inset
- View A/B Contrasting fabric: ¼ yard darker color or one fat quarter for dress skirt and contrasting collar & cuffs
- View C Contrasting Fabric: 1/3 yd darker color for dress skirt, peplum, contrasting collar and cuffs
- Lining: 1/8 yd batiste or appropriate lining fabric for front and back bodice
Notions
- Two ½” or ⅜” contrasting buttons for belt;
- Three 3/8” buttons for back closure
- 5” – 7” Hook and loop tape for View C and if belted
- High quality matching polyester thread, depending on fabric choice
- New, sharp size 11/12 sewing machine needle* or needle suited for fabric choice
- Hand sewing needle for insert
