I was thrilled to be able to make this beautiful Cinderella costume. It came together beautiful but seemed to fit the Slimmer 18” dolls better. I love how the result came out like the dress in the Disney Movie! This pattern is a little challenging so I don’t recommend it for the beginner seamstress.
I am finishing up my first of three ball gowns with this pattern. Although at one time, I sewed a lot, it's been about twenty years and now I am sewing by hand. The point it that this pattern is doable and the result is just lovely. The dress and petticoat are the stuff of a grandmother's/granddaughter's fantasy. On a practical note, the pattern is fitting the doll well, the instructions are extremely detailed and the illustrations really help. I highly recommend this pattern!
I love this pattern but it runs very small. will probably make it again but will enlarge the bodice. Fitted is one thing but I had to use hooks & eyes to make it close. I made mine purple.
I am not pleased with the directions, especially for the petticoat. I consider myself an accomplished seamstress, but this pattern is not the quality I have come to expect with the patterns I purchase from PixieFaire.
I'm finding the almost endless optional suggestions of ways to assemble the petticoat baffling. I prefer one set of instructions that explain how the photographed sample was constructed. Optional construction ideas, should be listed separately, not all jumbled together. Written instructions should use consistant terminology for clarity; there are instructions using the terms inside and outside and that switched to wrong side which didn't mean the same thing as inside. It's difficult to identify the pieces and labeling by piece number (10, 11) which does not correspond with the instructions that describes them as "ruffle 1, 2, 3" is just poor editing. I apreciated the list of fabrics in the sample, but why was there were no notations of which where used where. It would be nice to know which were used in the sample since it was THAT photograph that sold me the pattern. I mis-cut pieces because lay-out instructions do not specify anything other than lining, yet I'm working with multiple fabrics. The dress was not difficult sewing and I doubt the petticoat will be either if I can ever figure the it out, but it would have been sewn much faster were the instructions more concise. A last word regarding the photographs in the instructions; if you're going to use photos were right and wrong side are indistinguishable and where multiple layers are being joined please make use of photo editing tools that allow you to label the individual parts of the photo.
