My favorite sewing tip is to use a small rotary cutter to cut out pattern pieces. Much faster than using scissors. Also, tearaway stabilizer is great to keep fabric from being eaten by the feed dogs.
My favorite sew tip or trick is to take my time. Any time I rush I tend to make mistakes and have to pull out the seam ripper.
My favorite tip is when sewing several straight stitch items of close to same type, sew a couple of stitches after the fabric and continue on to the next piece without cutting the thread. Saves on thread.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is when I learned about ‘flat’ sewing for doll clothes. it makes it SO much easier than trying to set sleeves in that tiny garment! Thank you for the opportunity!
My favorite sewing tip, trick is using a glue stick to hold a snap or very small button in place at least long enough to get it sewed on. Both are hard for me to hold on too so this helps tremendously.
My favorite sewing tip is to have a narrow rectangular box to the right of my machine, holding thread snips, seam ripper , a purple thang, seam gauge, and whatever extra needles you might need.
My favorite sewing tips are to iron as you sew, the difference is amazing. Also, don’t cheap out on thread, stay away from the bargain bin! The few dollars you save are not worth the snarls and breaks.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use check fray on the threads and fabric to keep from fraying. Thank you Cinnamon for the awesome giveaways.😘
My favorite sewing tip is to iron as you sew.
My favorite sewing tip is never sew in a hurry, always with patience, unless you like unpicking your mistakes a hundred times.
My favorite tip or trick is always read instructions and pin pieces together before each step to picture item. Step by step. I then can find the tricky parts before I sew.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using a bit of water-soluble embroidery stabilizer at the start of small seams, to keep the fabric from being sucked down into the throat plate when you start sewing. If you do machine embroidery, it’s also a great way to use the leftover soluble stabilizers!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to sew flat as much as possible, it helps so much when sewing doll clothes.
When trying to turn an item I get a piece of tube such as pvc with a dowel that fits inside of it. You take the pipe and put it inside the sewn tube that needs to be turned, and you push the material through the tube by pushing the material with the"stick".
My favorite tip is keeping a small iron right by my sewing machine so I can iron everything as I sew it
amazing tip? I have none, which is why i’m a mediocre sewer. BUTI do sew spandex over tissue paper to prevent distortion in the stretch. Yeah, I guess that would be it
One sewing tip I have is to cut out more than one item at a time. If I’m using different fabrics for the same pattern, I can cut out as many as I want. When I’m ready to sew, I don’t have to waste time cutting out again. I do this when I crochet also, it does save time.
My favorite tip is ironing. I keep a small iron and doll size ironing board right by my sewing machine so I can iron everything as I sew it.
My favorite sewing trick is drawing seam lines on the material. No guessing, I know exactly where to sew and get an optimal seam.
My favorite seeing tip is to keep my sewing machine always ready for the neit step of my project. Any time I walk past my sewing area, I can stop and sew a seam or whatever needs done. In the course of a busy day, I can still make progress on my project at a steady pace!!
My favorite sewing tip is use a magnetic pin holder. It makes the whole process of pinning and unpinning so efficient!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to read the pattern instructions carefully, not once but twice.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to put a coffee filter or some gift bag tissue paper underneath the fabric when I’m sewing with knit types. The tissue paper helps keep the fabric from stretching too much while sewing on a machine.
My favorite sewing tip is to always have straight pins and scissors to the right of your machine, and any other tools (I need a magnifying glass) to the left. Sure saves time when you are sewing to not have to look all over for what you need.
My favorite sewing tip is the iron is your friend! In fact I think it was invented just for sewing 😂
My favorite sewing tip is the place a piece of tape underneath the clear plastic bobbin cover at the correct seam allowance measurement. Placing the tape underneath avoids the tape from becoming distorted
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to make only one outfit when trying a new pattern. I can focus on the details and check the fit of the pattern. When completed, I evaluate the directions to see if there are modifications that will make it easier to make the second time.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is the more pins the better (while it takes much longer to pin it, putting the time in gives a much neater line and more polished end product).
My favorite sewing tip or trick is cut out several outfits at a time (which is my least favorite part) and then you can look forward to seeing one project after another for awhile!! It’s an exciting prospect!! Right now I am in the middle of cutting out 10-15 outfits (which is more than I usually do at all time) and am sooo excited to start sewing them!!
My tip or trick is really just get good quality fabric. What a difference it makes!!
My favourite sewing tip is to baste stitch with different colour thread, fold and iron and sew short stitch to finish and remove baste stitch once done.
My favorite sewing trick is to use pinking shears to trim around small curved seams, like a doll’s Peter Pan collar, before turning. It does the clipping and notching of curves all in one step!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is To sew the hem first when making the smaller outfits. It’s easier to match up and less hassle when sewing pants.
read directions first then plan short cuts
My favorite tip is using my hair straightener to iron tiny cuffs and hems. I also use a travel iron and sleeve board when pressing doll clothes.
I love doing a “baby hem” pin at tge length you want, sew around and then trim close to tge stitching turn and dew again.
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is sew because you love to … “
My favorite sewing hint is to press bias tape by holding one end down with the iron and then pressing it with a slight curve….so much easier to handle on a armhole or curved hem. It works so slick that you only need to stitch the narrower side of the tape applying it in a single step. Day 11 of FUN-FUN-FUN. UNUSUAL prints with contrasting color go in place so well.
“My favorite sewing tip is to use an awl to aid in sewing tiny seams exact to the very end of the seam “
My tip is to make sure you have everything you need for the project, notions as well as fabric. Always have extra sewing machine needles on hand as well.
My favorite sewing tip USED to be sewing the seam closed BEFORE sewing in the zipper. NOW my favorite tip is 1/4" double sided wash away tape to hold things together where I want them to stay as I sew
My favorite sewing tip USED to be sewing the seam closed BEFORE sewing in the zipper. NOW my favorite tip is 1/4" double sided wash away tape to hold things together where I want them to stay as I sew
“My favorite sewing tip is to use a ¼ inch foot for doll seams
My favorite sewing tip is to prewash all fabric so it is easier to work with. I also double check when I cut or even before I cut to make sure I have all the pieces.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a mini iron (Clover makes a good one) for seam pressing. If you can’t find a mini iron, a travel iron works better than a full-size iron. And don’t forget to press, press, press!
My tip is to practice, practice, practice. I made mistakes but got better. Don’t give up. I save all my not so perfect blocks and make charity quilts for Preemies in hospital NICU. They are perfect!!!
My favorite sewing tip is to read all the directions before I begin.
So I have made it a practice of making 2 copies of the pattern pieces so that I can cut one out & still have the pattern as a whole in case a piece gets lost in the shuffle of things
My favorite sewing tip…read all the tips already mentioned!! Don’t be over-critical of your work. Every project has its challenges and opportunities to learn something new. If something isn’t working right, don’t be afraid to try something different to put your own stamp of creativity on it. Have FUN!!!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is starting my sewing on a scrap piece of fabric, that way my fashion fabric never gets pulled down under the feed dogs.
Like many others, I store my patterns in plastic sleeves, in multiple binders. When I select a pattern I pull the entire sleeve out of the binder. I clip it near my sewing machine. As I cut pieces out I pin or clip the pattern pieces to the cut-out fabric. This makes quick work of identifying pattern pieces. As I sew I put the paper pattern back into the plastic sleeve. At the end of the project all the pattern pieces are already gathered and ready to go back into my binders.
I don’t feel that I know enough about sewing to have many tips to pass on, but one thing I make sure I do is read through the instructions and try to visualize them before beginning to sew a project.
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is to sew your seams accurately. Put tape (several layers) on your machine so you don’t make a seam too deep.
My favorite sewing tip is to trace all the pattern pieces of your pattern on tissue paper (especially if it a multiple size pattern). My Mom taught me to do that and to keep all the pieces that you traced out. Sometimes it makes it hard to put beck in the envelope!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is #1 always iron every step of the way and #2 when sewing small doll clothes sew your pieces flat whenever possible. For instance, gather the upper shoulder sleeve as it sits on the matching bodice shoulder seam, then stitch the shoulder seam in flat and then sew the side seams from skirt hem to sleeve hem. Same for adding trim, inserting elastic, skirt hems. The more you practice it the more ways you will see it can be used.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to always use a coffee filter when sewing 1/4 inch seams. Comes away easy and the seams do not waiver.
My favourite sewing tip is to really good lighting especially when sewing dark colours. I set lighting so that I have sources coming from different angles to provide the best lighting. I try not to sew dark colours at night either.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using coffee filters when sewing knit, and using hemostats for turning tiny little arms and legs…finger saver.
Press, press, press!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is French seams!! Even though I don’t use them often lol
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use seams seam 1/4” tapetomake perfect pockets !
“My favorite sewing tip or trick is to press the seams before sewing especially on the small clothes, makes it a lot easier.
My favorite sewing tip is using coffee filters when sewing knits..
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to always press your seams.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use page protectors and binders to store patterns and instructions.
My favorite sewing tip is using the right presser foot for the sewing job! Love my edge stitcher!
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to iron my sewing projects at each step. My mother had a friend who was a professional seamstress. She always said you use your iron when you sew as much as you use your sewing machine. I have bought doll clothes from people who didn’t do this and even after I pressed them, they did not look or fit right. It’s a step you just can’t leave out if you want a nicely finished sewing project.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is using a coffee filter under knit fabric. It really helps.
Also, I like to trace (or print) patterns onto Freezer paper and just iron it onto fabric, to avoid having pinning things all the time (just don’t use erasable pens…or all the lines will vanish with the heat).
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to organize the patterns in a binder. I have them printed and all cut out so they are ready to go for when I want to use them. Also iron and cut stings as I go.
My favorite sewing tip is to iron after every step. It makes the finished product much nicer.
My favorite tip is to prepare fabric and keep sewing by feeding the pieces continuously without stopping to cut after each sewing each piece.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to use the walking foot whenever possible.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to put a small piece of white cardstock or paper behind the eye of the sewing machine needle when trying to thread it. It blocks out everything and I can see just what I need to see, the eye!!
My favorite tip is to print off extra instructions and pattern pieces and keep labeled in a binder
I make gathers on light weight fabrics by setting my machine to the longest stitch length and tightest tension, then I hold the thread as it comes off the spool. Perfect gathers every time.
Also I use double the width on tulle as it gathers tighter than other fabrics and fuller skirts are prettier anyway.
My favourite sewing tip (one of many ) is using tissue paper on knits, haven’t tried coffee filters yet but the tissue makes knits tolerable . I used to avoid seeing any knits.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to print off an extra copy of the pattern and instructions and keep in a binder.
My favorite sewing tip, for doll sewing and for quilting, is to have a small ironing station set up beside you at your sewing machine to avoid having to get up and press between sewing all those little pieces. I have a mini iron beside me at all times.
My favorite tip or trick when sewing: Use an awl, instead of your fingers to guide thick or slippery fabric under the foot. It saves from needles in fingers.
My favorite sewing tip iron all seams.
My favorite sewing tip is to use iron on interfacing for necklines and sleeveless facings. Sew on stitch lines using a block of interfacing right sides facing. Then cut the interfacing the shape you want after turning right side out. Iron it down. You can stitch down the facing or not.
My tip when sewing elastic is: Make and sew the casing for the elastic. Measure the length of elastic you need and use a pencil to mark where the elastic is to be cut at that length, but Do Not Cut the Elastic! Use a bodkin to thread the elastic through the casing and stitch it in place at the edge of the fabric. Then pull on the elastic until you see the pencil mark, and then stitch over the elastic at that edge of the fabric to secure it. Now cut the elastic off beyond that pencil mark. .Easy insertion every time!

My favorite sewing tip is, when turning a tube, sew one short side, then down the long side. Insert a straw all the way into the tube and, using a blunt dowel or stick, push it into the straw. It will push your fabric through the straw far enough for you to be able to pull on the fabric and finish turning the tube right side out. Works great on any size tube, including dress straps and ties for Wellie Wishers. Of course, I’m never without coffee filters by my sewing machine. I use them on all types of fabric.
My favorite sewing tip is to tape down your button with scotch tape before sewing on with the machine. That way they stay in place and you can see through the clear tape to see the holes.
My favorite sewing tip is to use a coffee filter on knits that want to sink down in the feeddog. I make alot of doll t-shirts and this has been a lifesaver.
My favorite sewing tip is to accumulate and prepare all materials needed for a project before beginning to make it. This includes fabric, thread, notions and pattern. It can also include any specialty rulers or tools that can make the production process easier. I like to have everything cut out and ready, including trims, before I can begin. Once I start working, I like to just zip through each assembly step with as few interruptions as possible. :-)
My newest and favorite sewing tip is using a wooden clapper when ironing. It really helps to get flat crisp seams.
I cut my doll skirts the full width of the fabric . . 45" and 60" for sheer fabrics. So pretty.
My favorite sewing tip is having everything organized before I start sewing.
My favorite sewing tip is to keep muliple scissors and pin sets so you can have them at the ironing board and the sewing table.
My favorite sewing tip is: Don’t cut your elastic from the hank. Measure & mark the length you need and secure the end to the fabric, say in a sleeve. Stretch the elastic & secure the other end & then cut the elastic.
My favorite sewing tip or trick is to always press as I go.
My favorite sewing tip is to stay organized!!
My favorite sewing tip is everything you need to use in order and organized.
Joan
My favorite sewing tip is organize your work to get started
Marilyn
My favorite sewing tip is be prepared before starting.

My favorite sewing tip or trick is using the doll pressing tools. This was the first pattern I made and I use them all the time.
My favorite sewing tip is to use 1/4” fusable tape on knit hems. It helps kerp the hem smooth.
