Hi Everyone! How are your summer sportswear projects coming along? Whether you're looking at recreating historical sportswear fashions or more modern sporty outfits, we hope you're feeling inspired by the projects we've shared! In Part 3 I've got a new project, perfect for the outdoorsy type! Make a lightweight woven hiking top for your next summer outing!Shari and I have been discussing the origin of women's sportswear and the evolution of the garments over time. It's been interesting to look back and see how's it's all come about! After sharing my Souvenir Jersey project in Part 2, Shari mentioned trying a similar idea on the back of a woven button front shirt. After all, the classic boys button front shirt is the origin for the girls more sporty shirtwaist in historical fashion. The idea immediately struck a cord in my mind - I have a different style Disney Sprit Jersey that's a woven fabric, button-up design and recreating that at a smaller scale was the next project on my table!Follow along in the video below to see how it all comes together! Project Notes:The pattern used int his example if the Liberty Jane Button-up Shirt, View D "The Camp Shirt".Time Saving Tip: If sewing the collar/collar stand version in the LJ pattern intimidates you, you can easily swap these two pieces for the Collar in the QTPi Simply Buttoned Long Sleeve Shirt! A freezer paper pattern piece for my back yoke really helped to get a perfectly cut up-cycled design!Choose a fun print for the lining to spice things up! Maybe a good use for one of those silk ties Shari showed us in the Spring Outerwear topic! For the long sleeve version, I cut a 1-inch wide piece of knit fabric to create a cuffed sleeve (instead of doing he continuous lap placket and tiny button). If you're unfamiliar with Sew Powerful, the non-profit that Jason and I founded almost 15 years ago, you can learn more at www.sewpowerful.org Coming up next Tuesday... Shari is continuing with the Summer Sportswear theme and taking look back at women's fashion with the LJ Button Up Shirt as her starting point - stay tuned!Rolling into June...
