18th Century Colonial Gown 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

12 reviews   |

The MyAngieGirl version of the 18th Century Colonial Gown is a one-piece design that gives you the look of highest fashion without the fussiness of separate petticoats and stomachers. This pattern features a long pleated skirt, three-quarter length sleeves, built-in stomacher and petticoat panel, and fastens in the back.

During the 18th Century (1701 – 1800) gowns made with the open front bodice used the stomacher, or ornamental cloth, to cover the stays and chemise worn beneath. Sometimes the stomacher was made to match the gown; other times the stomacher was elaborately decorated to accent the gown.

A online search for stomachers in the 18th Century shows a wide range of embellishments used including embroidery, fringe, puffed fabric, ribbon trim, and even quilting. How will you decorate your stomacher?

This PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.

Suggested fabrics for the Colonial Gown include cotton and blends, lightweight wovens, lightweight silks or taffeta, etc.
