A gorgeous dress, by Little Miss Muffett, made to resemble a skirt, top and bolero, teamed with an adorable Juliette cap sporting a big flower, is the perfect outfit for back to school. The dress, which closes with hook and loop tape in back, has a full gathered skirt consisting of three fabric layers with pinked hem edges and lace underlays to give a very soft look. The fitted, lined bodice has a pretty scoop neckline, a choice of two sleeve lengths and a faux bolero which is sewn into the shoulder and side seams. The bolero fronts are lined, have gathered lace edges and have contrast top-stitching on the front edges. Pretty buttons on either side of the bolero add a decorative touch. Bonus instructions are included to crochet a Juliette cap to complete the outfit. This easy PDF pattern is designed to fit 18” soft-bodied dolls such as American Girl®.

Fabric Used – Quilter’s Cotton was used for the Faux Bolero and top tier of the skirt, Lace Anglais was used for the bodice and sleeves and soft lightweight cotton was used for the second and third tiers of the skirt as well as lining for the bodice and bolero fronts. Combinations of Eyelet and Nylon Lace were used as trim on the bolero and skirt tiers. The Juliette Cap and flower was made using cotton fingering yarn. This is a great way to use up smaller pieces of fabric and yarn oddments.

Such a cute pattern! Fit was excellent, directions were easy to follow. I made 2 identical dresses. Only thing I might do differently next time is make the tiers about 4” shorter ... because I used standard cotton for all layers, there was a lot of bulk in the gathers, and I really had to work to scrunch the gathers as tight as I could to fit the bodice. Suspect this wouldn’t be a problem with a thin cotton. (I do need to find a cheaper source for lace ... this takes a lot!)
Loved that the pattern had only two pieces, instructions were easy to read and understand. Loved the finished design.
I absolutely love the Pinkie pattern. I originally bought it because I wanted a less traditional witches costume and saw the picture on the pattern. I have made witches costumes for my dolls and also another dress with eyelet and lace that I love.
