The Versatility Dress: classically simple, with so many possible looks! Make it in a fluid knit or a pretty woven fabric. Dress it up with fancy material and an elegant sash, or keep it casual with informal fabrics and a skinny tie belt. Four bodice options can be combined with three different skirt and belt options for a variety of personalized choices. A brief tutorial on how to sew an attached lining with finished seams is also included. Depending on your choice, the skill level to make this dress can range from easy to intermediate. The decision is up to you! This PDF sewing pattern is designed to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl®.

Awesome easy dress.

I have only used this pattern to make a Santa's helper dress, but am anxious to make another dress. It was easy to assemble. I love it.

My go-to pattern

I love this dress pattern! It not only cute, but is quick and easy to put together, and lends itself to lots of variations. The princess seaming and open neckline are great details that make this much more than an ordinary doll dress. I have made it in several combinations of fabrics - lace overlay, stretch velvet, cotton, satin - and skirt styles. I even made a full-length satin ball gown with just by lengthening the skirt (the princess seaming makes it elegant, and I like shoulders better than strapless designs on child dolls). It's essential to check the measurements of the doll you want to dress: because it is fitted (which I love), and because some of the older dolls are a little fuller, you may have to adjust - but it's easy to add a bit to the back edge to make sure the top will close. This is my go-to pattern for dresses.

Summer fun

I love Forever 18 inch patterns! I used a knit with colorful flowers in it and the circle skirt. I added a coordinating belt, made for fold over elastic and included a hand crocheted sun hat with a flower made from the knit. I was very pleased with how it turned out and hope to make the other variations of this pattern soon.

cute retro dress

I made the version with a circle skirt for an "Our Generation" doll. The designer suggests the use of a fabric with drape but I used a light cotton polka dot to get a cute retro 50s style dress which is a perfect fit for the doll and which was fun and easy to make. I would recommend this pattern as a good basic pattern.

Easy and elegant

This dress was a snap to make. I made it in a nice, sturdy stable knit in peach. I made a burgundy belt and chain strap shoulder bag to go with it. Awesome!
