Stratford Swing Coat 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

13   |

Featured in the 2015 Euro Libby: Stratford outfit, this detailed swing coat designed to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl®, is fully lined and features welt pockets, interesting geometric piecing, back pleats and a cute flounce. Mix the classic stylings of the swing coat with the on-trend vision of Liberty Jane® and Voila! You get this beautiful designed jacket!

Fabric choice is very important when making this coat as the back flounce needs a somewhat drapey fabric that will allow the subtle folds to form.

Suggested fabrics include: lightweight wool, rayon/poly blends, suiting and a lightweight twill. The lining can be made from any poly or rayon lining fabric. We used a delicate cotton lawn print to add a little special treat to the inside of the jacket pictured.

Stratford swing coat

I can say for a fact that I'm 100% happy with this pattern. The instructions are very easy to follow and the result was fabulous. I made two coats, one with the back pleats and one without. I'm sending a photo of the one without the back pleats.

stratford swing coat

This is a challenging pattern, but well worth the effort! The final product wasn't perfect but I did pretty well. I love that there are no exposed seams. Just love the two LJP that I have used so far.

A little complicated

I resized this pattern down 85% for My Friend Mandy doll. I have made several other patterns and this one gave me trouble, probably my choice of fabrics (too drapey). I found it was easier to sew each line of the front and back points separately than to try and do one line. Also due to the resizing it was hard to have the coat button to the top like in the picture. It is a super cute coat and I got the pockets to work! So much fun to have functional pockets.

Easier than it looks!

This is a nice little pattern! I expected complications when I started out with this pattern, but I took it step by step and had no problems at all. The instructions are clear and it turned out adorable! I will definitely be making another one. Thank you!

Swing coat

I love this pattern, have made several for my granddaughters, only this little coat fits more like a top. As a coat nothing fits underneath. So I have made pants or skirts to match and it is adorable. Thank you for my pattern. Every Friday I look forward for my free pattern.
