Opening Night Dress 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

24 reviews   |

Your 18 inch doll will be sure to set off the flash bulbs as she strolls down the red carpet on Opening Night in this beautiful eye-catching gown from Liberty Jane. The fly-away overskirt reveals a short trendy pencil skirt underneath as seen on the runway and your favorite pop star. The upper mesh yoke provides just the right look to complement the fitted bodice. The dramatic back features a stretch sheer back and enchanting pleated over-skirt. The dress is fully lined and closes with an invisible zipper and hook and eye closure. (Beaded trim on the neckline is a necklace/choker, not part of the dress pattern).

Suggested fabrics include: silk dupioni, taffeta, and satin. It is important to use a fabric that holds the pleats and fullness of the overskirt. The sheer yoke will need a stretch mesh for best results. You may wish to line the overskirt out of the same fashion fabric or choose a contrast for a different look. The bodice and under skirt can be lined with any poly or rayon lining.

A dress for special day.

Easy to sew, have made this twice. The second one I elongated the dress. I am going to make many more!

Opening Night Gown

Used this pattern to create a wedding gown, I did modified the under dress to make it floor length. Had to adjust the overskirt (more than I would have thought) so that it would fit to the underskirt at the waistline. I didn't alter the waist so am not sure why the two did not line up (after the pleating was constructed). After quite a bit of altering the under and over skirts to fit I am very pleased with the gown but not sure I will attempt another gown without sewing up a mock-up with scrap fabric (do not want to destroy fabric).

Pixie Faire Opening Night Dress 18 Doll Clothes Pattern Review

Opening Night Dress

The directions are very good for this pattern, but it definitely is not for the beginner. I was unaware that the upper bodice was made from a mesh fabric and that the arm openings and necklines were meant to be finished by turning the raw edge over and top stitched. I would have liked to see alternative instructions for using a standard woven fabric. I had cut pieces of sheer organza for this and ended up making bias binding to finish the edges. The bindings added width to the pieces and made it difficult sew the lining. You also want to remember that the skirt back lining is going to be visible, so choose you lining fabric wisely.
