Marie Antoinette Zone Front Gown 18" Doll Clothes

1 review   |

This zone-front gown by Thimbles and Acorns  is a Robe a l'Anglaise (a gown with a bodice that closes in the front without the use of a stomacher) with diagonal pieces sweeping from the top center front to just before the side seams at the waist, pening up into the skirt. This creates a separate piece across the stomach (a separate "zone”). The gown pictured on the front cover is made in one color and set off with a sheer organza trim, but the color of the center “zone” can be changed to give it a completely new look. The gown bodice closes down the front with hooks and eyes, edge-to-edge, with trim along the center front. The back of the gown is made in the En 'Fourreau style, a method where the back of the skirt and the back of the bodice are one piece, and the bodice portion is pleated and sewn down to create the shaping. The sleeves are full length with a double organza ruffle along the bottom edge and placket. The trimmings consist of gathered bands of organza. The standout feature of this gown is the wide red belt with rhinestone buckle. This PDF pattern is designed to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl® or other Similarly Sized Dolls.

This pattern is available in two sizes (18" American Girl and 16" A Girl For All Time) that can be purchased individually for $8.99 or you can opt to purchase the bundle for $10.99. To see the listing for the 16 Inch Doll Pattern Click Here

First time I used hook and eye tape

Another spectacular pattern. This was one of the more difficult patterns of hers that I have sewn. But the results are stunning. I love the trim she uses on this pattern. I have used the technique a couple of times since making this one. The unique element of this pattern is the hook and eye closure in the front. This secure closure give a cinched fit you couldn't achieve with snaps. The instructions for sewing with hook and eye tape were great. I had to carefully read the instructions, and sew carefully when machine stitching the hook and eye tape. But the effect is great. I have only been able to find the hook and eye tape on-line. (I suppose you could make your own--but I hate handstitching!)
