Her name on paper was simple enough: Betsy. Not very pretentious. Not very unusual. Downright ordinary, in fact. But when she arrived, her striking gown’s elegant silhouette and shimmering jewels glistening in the late evening sunlight, it was clear we had been wrong about Betsy. She was a force to be reckoned with.
“Besty” is a luxurious soft gown in both maxi and day lengths. It features a pull-on design, a ruched bodice, optional bodice lining and petticoat, and shoulder straps that cross in the back before becoming part of the pleated skirt. We suggest using a soft knit with some body and rebound, like a jersey knit.

I actually had some trouble with this pattern. I had to rip out the back straps several times before I could make them come out right. And I don't love the fit as well as I usually do Melody Valerie Couture patterns - it looks very bulky where the waist attaches to the skirt. But it still is an elegant, sophisticated dress and I'm sure a little girl will be delighted with it!
Melody, thanks for sharing your most fabulous pattern with us. I think it is the prettiest dress pattern ever for our girls.
I just finished this dress. It's very pretty but I'm going to have to remake the skirt part of it because it has ended up significantly too short. I recommend adding 1-2 inches to the skirt pieces depending on how large you make your hem.
This pattern was not difficult at all to make, and the instructions are very helpful. I really, really like buying patterns from people who sell on Pixie Faire. They are simply the best! And this one, in particular, is top-notch. Twenty-five stars!
