I got this yesterday & made two today, one with an old placemat & one from curtain material. They both came out really well. I sewed across the neck top instead of using a bead. I have been thinking about making a dress form for a long time & have been saving different sizes of dish washing liquid bottles, thinking they would work as a form. Seventh Generation dish washing liquid was a perfect fit. I put the bottom of the bottle in the dress form & only had to add a little padding in the top area to fill it in. I am going to experiment with putting a dowel rod through the bottle and mount the dowel rod on a wooden piece that will act as my stand. This is for a long dress so I am not worried about how the bottom looks since it will be covered by the dress.
I had wanted something like this since I started making doll clothes and now I have one. I never intended to put a ball head on top, so I wish I could have known better to just stitch it up before the stuffing, so I could have stuffed the neck stiffer. I also modified the bottom, as I do not have hot glue, by securing the cloth to the base with T pins. I also used a dollar store vase as the base. I glued cardboard to the top of the vase first, then glued the cardboard to the exposed cardboard of the body base. It turned out well.
I enjoyed making this Dress form. It went together easily and looks great. My Granddaughter loves it, playing 'Dress Shop’.
Looking forward to making this dress form for granddaughter to display her dolly dresses. Directions are clear and easy to understand.
I found the sewing very simple and easy. The 3 star rating is due to the fact that if made according to the directions it would be for display only and not for frequent use. The directions specify gluing the jewel or knob at the top directly to the fabric, and gluing the dress form onto a candlestick. This would never hold up to much use. My husband and I cut the base out of 1/4” plywood, drilled a hole in the center and put a small dowel through from the top, drilled into the candlestick and glued. Then we glued the wooden ball to the top of the dowel. It seemed very sturdy and looked great.
