Socks and Smokey are two adorable little kittens that are the perfectly-sized pet cat for your 18-inch dolls.
Made from short pile soft cuddle plush (Minky® in the US, Shannon Cuddle 3 in the UK), these cute little kittens are so sweet, you just want to pick one up and hug him (or her!).
The Socks & Smokey PDF sewing pattern, by Genniewren Designs, has been designed with novice toymakers in mind. Smokey is the slightly easier option as her body is made up of only four pieces. Socks has separate additional pattern pieces for the white paws and tail tip. Other than that, the kittens are made in exactly the same way, although Socks has contrast inner ears and a contrasting nose.
The required techniques to make and finish the kittens are all explained with step by step photographs.
Socks and Smokey are so adorable, your dolls will love these new additions to the family. You won't want to stop at making just one cat, you'll need a whole litter of these cute little kittens.
Recommended Fabrics: Minky®, Shannon Cuddleplush 3mm pile, short pile fun fur fabric, stretch velvet.
-A third of a yard of 3mm cuddle plush type fabric e.g. Shannon Cuddle3 (also known as Minky® in the USA) for either kitten. If you buy precut pieces, then 10” x 30” or 24” x 12” will be sufficient in the main color for either kitten.
-A small piece (24” x 4”) of contrasting cuddle plush type fabric for the contrast paws, inner ears, nose and tail tip for Socks only.
-8 oz (250 gram) of polyester fiberfill toy filling is sufficient to make either kitten.
-A small piece of good quality pink felt for the nose (a 1” square is plenty) and a similar sized piece of green felt for the eyes.
-One 1/2" (13mm) rhinestone slider (buckle) for the collar.(You may find this near the fold over elastic (FOE) used to make baby headbands or in the cardmaking section of your favorite hobby store).
-Approximately 7” of 3/8” (9mm) wide grosgrain ribbon for the collar, or
-Half a yard (45 cm) of 1” wide ribbon for a bow around the neck.
-Extra strong thread for attaching the head to the body and to create the whiskers.
-Chopstick or knitting needle for turning and stuffing
-Long dollmaker’s needle for attaching eyes and sculpting the face (approx 3” is a good size)
-You may also find a circular needle helpful for attaching the head.

Overall, the kittens went together well. I did struggle with the ears on each one..I completed 3 but tried at least 3 other heads. Really don't know what I was doing incorrectly, Because I already had some, I used fleece rather than minky.
