Let's Go Downtown! A 1968 A-Line Dress

“Let’s Go Downtown!” is a classic and fun sixties look for your eighteen-inch doll.  An A-line dress inspired by Simplicity Pattern #7587 from 1968, the design features princess seams and a rolled collar.  Options: make the dress sleeveless or with short sleeves, knee length or mini length, and add a half belt that buttons in the front.  See the testers' samples for ideas! Fully lined, and closes in the back with buttons, snaps or hook and loop tape.   A bonus tutorial for making the essential sixties hair accessory - a  headband - is included.

"Let's Go Downtown!' reflects the “mod” aesthetic—originating in London—that showcased futuristic geometric patterns, bold color blocking, and streamlined tailoring.   Sew the dress in playful pop prints and bright hues for that sixties look.

Techniques included in the pattern: sewing a princess seam, easing a sleeve cap, adding a rolled collar, fully lining a dress using the bag method.

This PDF sewing pattern, by Eighteen Cotton Lane, is designed to fit popular 18" dolls such as those shown in the photos.
