Swing Time Halter Dress & Top 18" Doll Clothes

15 reviews   |

Light and breezy swing-style silhouettes have roots reaching back to the 18th century Sacque Gowns first popularized in the French Court. The shape became popular again during the 1950s, and could be found in coats and jackets because the style fit well over the full skirts that were so popular during that era. The 1960s popularized the look for dresses, and today "retro" styles have once again come full-circle. This pattern, by Forever 18 Inches, features a contemporary high-low halter bodice and a loose-fitting high-low skirt that can be made as a top, a simple casual dress, or a frilly ruffled frock worn for dressy occasions such as doll tea parties. Two sets of cutting lines have been provided in the PDF pattern to fit older, larger dolls, as well as newer slimmer models. Ribbons can used as a stand-in for the halter ties, which makes this pattern a quick sewing project for craft-show vendors, Etsy sellers, and hard-working mothers and grand-mothers. For an extra perk, Bonus instructions for a doll-sized paper fan using common household items are included. After all, dolls want to stay cool during the summer, too!

This designer hits another one out of the ballpark!

I realized recently that out of the many dozens of patterns I’ve purchased on Pixiefaire, I own more by Forever 18 Inches than any other designer. And the reasons are: perfect fit, adorable results, versatility of design, clear instructions, and ALWAYS great tips and tricks that aid me as a sewist. This pattern is no exception!

Very Cute Top

The pattern was easy and I made many tops and some dresses from this pattern. This is a winner for any level. I used ribbon instead of making ties and it made it so simple.

Very pretty dress

I enjoyed making the dress. I have two more cut out and I will start on them tonight. I think the directions are a little "wordy". It is a very pretty dress. I made the one with the plain hem. My granddaughter will love it.

Can't get over this one!

Loved loved love this pattern! I fell in love with it and got it as soon as I saw it, but had to wait until I had just the perfect fabric. I finally found a piece of soft white eyelet that works perfectly. The dress drapes wonderfully and the ribbon straps give it a cute twist. I'll be making a few more, for sure!
