1800s Simple Stitches Dress 18" Doll Clothes

4 reviews   |

If you'd like a quick project, Flossie Potter's "1800s Simple Stitches Dress" PDF sewing pattern is a simple, yet pretty, design for 18" dolls such as American Girl®. The wide-necked dress with Bishop sleeves has a fitted bodice that can have either a lining or facing. The gathered skirt portion falls below the knees with options for a 1/4" hem or 1" hem with trim (same total length of skirt).

Pair the dress with its companion pattern, "1800s Simple Stitches Heart Warmer & Snood" for an authentic look.

1800s Simple Stitches Dress

If you like the older styles of clothes which I do this is a great pattern for you. I had the pleasure of testing this dress, and it was really fun to do. I love how the sleeves are done, with half of them being lined. There are so many ways to switch the look too with fabric choices, and use of trim or fancy stitches. I did this first one plain, but next time I will add some stitching to bring out the true sweetness of the dress. Be sure to pair it with the complementary pattern, 1800s Simple Stitches Heart Warmer & Snood. It is available separately.

One feature, many methods!

One of the things I really enjoy about these patterns is learning different ways of doing the same thing. Facings, linings, hems, sleeves, gathering, turning. There is always something to learn! This pattern has options and the result is not only cute, but will stand up to a child’s sometimes rough play.
