Size matters!

The designer states that she was basing this pattern on a specific doll. I have found this to be the case for almost all of 18 inch patterns from the Friday Freebies series. For many of us, this is not really useful information since we do not know the year/era of the doll for whom we are sewing. Even for those designers who do to specify a particular era doll, I find the patterns to be too snug for the two American Girl dolls I use for design and fitting work. So I regularly add a cumulative 1 inch to the circumference of the torso parts of the designers’ pattern pieces.

Very Elegant..Stylish and Fun to Make!

This pattern is really stunning! Not the easiest to sew because of the pleats, but really fun! Instructions are logical and easy to follow, but I would suggest under- stitching the neck, sleeves, and back opening to allow really close trimming of the seam allowances, as well to keep the lining from peaking out. I would also allow about 5 inches total added to the pleated pattern piece to be able to adjust the pleats to fit the waist if needed. (the extra can always be trimmed off.) (Because of the thickness of the wool gaberdine, I needed to space mine out a bit more than intended. That said, I really loved making this pattern.... an elegant style and great fitting dress. I highly recommend it!

Love this dress.
