Story Book Collection: Pointy Hat and Princess Crowns 18" Doll Accessories

4 reviews   |

Complete your 18 inch doll costume with a great hat from My Angie Girl! History is full of pointy hats. From the towering hennins favored by medieval noblewomen to the iconic witch’s hat made famous by the Wicked Witch of the West, this cone-shaped topper is a millinery must have. When we think of dressing up in costumes, images of pointy hats abound, and nothing says “fairy tale princess” like a pointy cone-shaped hat with a veil attached.

The Pointy Hats pattern is simple to make. Sewing directions are given for the witch hat and the hennin, but both could be similarly made without sewing and using glue instead. Your hat can be made from felt and accessorized with decorative trim, ribbon, tulle, etc. For felt that is less stiff, you may want to add iron-on interfacing.

Pair these hats with the My Angie Girl Storybook Tutu Costume Dress for 18 inch dolls!

Cute hat!

I used this pattern to make birthday hats for an American Girl themed birthday party. The hat was sized perfectly and was a hit with the girls.

Great on the second try

I am giving this pattern four stars, as there are three different patterns. The Hennin or "Fairytale Princess Pointed Hat" and the crowns both work well - five stars for those! I had a problem with the witch's hat, however. I used 30% wool and 70% polyester felt. I printed and checked the size of the print out. Then I cut the pattern pieces and carefully sewed the seam. I could not get the brim to fit, the brim cut out was simply too large. It was so large I couldn't salvage the pattern piece, so I decided to add to the pattern for the "pointy" part of the hat and recut. That worked. I am not sure if the issue was in the material I used, if something I did wrong, or in the pattern itself, but I am glad I had extra material. I would give the witch's hat part of the pattern three stars. If you are making more than one witch's hat (I sew for 3 different girls), I suggest you try just one in your chosen material first. I do recommend this pattern overall as the finished product it very cute and the directions are pretty simple.

Very nice pattern

I have made the hennin and the witch's hat with brim. Went together exactly as shown. I have not made the crowns yet as I don't have the appropriate materials, but I'm anxious to get some made along with some princess dresses!
