The Vintage School dress, by Genniewren Designs, is reminiscent of an Edwardian school dress, with a sailor type collar, dropped waist bodice, fancy sleeves and cuffs.
Both dresses are unlined and open all the way down the back for easy dressing of your doll.
View A has short puffed sleeves with plain cuffs, a gathered skirt, contrast square sailor-style collar and a lace trimmed ribbon sash.
View B has long sleeves with trimmed contrast cuffs, a knife pleated skirt, and a triangular shaped contrast collar.
The collars, sleeves and skirt style options are interchangeable, and the dress can be made without a collar at all, giving you even more choice.
This pattern is a great way to gain confidence in using trims to enhance your doll’s clothing, e.g. piping or attaching lace. There is plenty of room on the bodice or collar to add machine or hand embroidery should you wish. The only limit is your own creativity!
This pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls with up to a 10.5” waist and 12” hips.
The pieces in this PDF sewing pattern are compatible with the Sorrell dress pattern which will give you even more design choices as you can mix and match the flared layered skirts and the sleeve choices with all the options in this pattern.
Recommended Fabrics: Woven fabrics: View A - dress weight cotton and cotton blends, e.g . poplin, broadcloth, lawn, quilter's cottons; View B - lightweight woolen fabric, wool/polyester blends, brushed cotton, mini tartan (plaid) fabric, gingham and other woven checks or plaids.
Supplies Needed:
-View A: You will need ⅜ yard of striped fabric, a fat quarter (18 inches x 22 inches) of contrast fabric for the collar and cuffs, ½ yard of velvet ribbon for the sash, 3½ yards of half inch wide Venise or Guipure lace, 1 yard contrast rick rack (if used instead of lace), two mini ribbon roses for collar.
-View B: You will need half a yard of plaid (mini tartan) lightweight wool, polyester/wool mix or brushed cotton fabric; and a fat quarter (18 inches x 22 inches) of contrast fabric for the collar and cuffs. You will also need 1½ yards of fine (Heirloom size) piping and 9½ inches of 1½ inch wide matching bias binding for the neck edge if you do not wish to make your own binding. If you wish to add lace to the piping, you will need 1½ yards of pre-gathered lace (approximately half an inch deep).
-Additional lace, ribbon or rick rack trims as desired
-For both versions you will need 9½ inches of anti snag hook and loop tape for the back fastening, or four small snaps/buttons if you prefer not to use hook and loop tape.
