Cadewyn Dress 18 Inch Doll Clothes Pattern

5 reviews   |

The Cadewyn Dress was featured in the Melody Valerie Couture Fall 1023 Inventions Collection. This epic ball gown for 18” dolls features architecturally pleated shoulders, a high back collar, and a dramatic silhouette. An optional Center Front scallop detail adds interest. Side lacing provides a venue to showcase your favorite ribbon or trim; it closes up the back with a zipper and some hooks and eyes.

This dress would look great in fabric that holds a crease, such as a crisp cotton, nylon, or silk dupioni. Tulle is probably your simplest choice for the overskirts, but for a challenging (and exciting) effect, try layering several different colors of chiffon.

Suggested fabrics to use: This PDF pattern was designed for use with silk habotai (China silk) or other very lightweight, soft-bodied, lightly woven fabrics like cotton batiste or a thin tencel lining fabric.

The pattern, though beautiful, was very confusing in the way it was written. It would help if the lines drawn on the bodice for the structured folds were labelled as such and that the pattern would call them folds, not pleats. There is nowhere these folds are sewn down and traditional sewing methods, it confusing to have them drafted on the pattern looking like darts and the language of the pattern calling them pleats. The pattern also ended up being a tad small, though that was not such a big issue compared to the confusing directions.

Great, detailed pattern. Needs a couple of fixes to the instructions. The lines for the tulle on the side panels should be drawn all the way to the side ( some are, but not the bottom one). Unless you read ahead, you don't know that after putting on the ruffles, you are sewing down at the side seams. Directions on collar placket should say cut one lining, one main fabric. On directions to sew the lining a close up of the front would be helpful where the bodice takes a little jog. Lastly, on fabric suggestions, I would recommend soft tulle. I bought three of which was a bit stiff, the tulle needs a bit of drape. Minor comments, but would have saved me time from ripping out seams. I would consider myself an advanced sewer.

Loved it!

I can't wait until my granddaughter comes over to try it on her doll! I used remnants for the tulle--next time I will pin all the layers before cutting to keep them together better before sewing.

Princess Perfect

I loved creating this gorgeous dress! I made it for a video on Youtube. (agproductions4evr) The directions were clear, but I did mess up on sewing in the ribbon loops. This dress is perfect for a little princess, or for a fancy ball. Its different from every dress in my doll's collection, and it is definitely my favorite. :)

For kiya

I think this will be a well appreciated gift once we get it done. We are doing this for our great niece who has an american girl doll. But she loves the clothes just as much so decided to make her some . Looks easy enough to do.
