I'm a beginner with some background knowledge of sewing. I've never sewn a doll dress. I chose this pattern to be my first dress. The instructions were very clear and the photos were so helpful. I followed the instructions with no problem. This dress is perfect for my Kit! I'm looking forward to making more of this dress in different fabrics. So, if you're a beginner, you will be able to do this. Don't hesitate to buy this adorable pattern!
I made three versions for my granddaughters dolls, for her birthday. The first dress I made seemed very snug on the American girl doll. I may have used seam allowances a but wide. I adjusted for the other two dresses. All three fit fit the 18 inch dolls from wal mart with no issues. Easy to follow instructions , helped to produce three cute dresses!
I love this pattern. There are a lot of steps, but the end result creates a perfect little 1930s or '40s play dress or school dress for either Kit or Molly. It's versatile, and there are a lot design choices, so you can make contemporary dresses, too. You could use this pattern to make dozens of different styles with varying materials and embellishments. I've made two so far. I like to sew them by hand -- I am not skilled enough to control my sewing machine for little things like doll clothes. These took me a few days because of all the details, but I find the result to be worth it.
