It’s your call. Will your 18" doll look like a prep school girl or a rocker? The choice is yours with this pleated skirt PDF sewing pattern from Liberty Jane®. We suggest you follow your inner star and make a few different versions to decide for yourself!
Design details include a dropped waist yoke, elastic waistband, and easy pleat design. The skirt yoke or pleated section can be cut on grain or on the bias for a diagonal variation. The pink and black skirt featured on the cover shows the yoke cut on the bias. The black and white skirt variation shows the pleated section cut on the bias for a diamond effect.
This was super easy and turned out even better than expected. I made three of these skirts, in different materials and they all looked custom made for each of the three dolls. It was a bit of a surprise to get the jacket pattern and realize the skirt pattern was separate (even tho the two are shown together in the jacket pattern front page.) I can't say enough good things about the Liberty Jane patterns.
Easy to use pattern and directions I did make a change in the pattern in that I did it all in one piece with a separate waistband. I also sewed down the pleats about an inch and a half, then added the waistband. This gives me a more authentic pleated skirt. I upcycled a red plaid wool size 2 toddler skirt and it made 2 skirts perfect for my 2 granddaughters.
