I made the jumper first in a knit fabric (T-shirt weight) and found the fabric a little too bulky for the pattern, My second attempt I used quilter's cotton and was very happy with the result. On my third one, I changed the skirt into a doubled gathered one with tiers, Again, I was pleased with the result. The pattern is very nice, but I am not sure why it indicates it is for knits when the woven cottons worked better.
This is a much different style than the dresses I usually make. I wasn’t crazy about the look of the knit fabric, especially with the pleats, but then I read a suggestion of making it in a stretch twill ... it’s a totally different look! The pattern uses the same outside fabric for lining, which I knew would be bulky, so I used a polyester with some stretch instead, which worked well. The instructions were a little confusing, but I got through them. The fit was excellent and needed no adjustments.
Pattern for the top hat is good. The directions are fine, however I didn't really follow them as written. I have made a couple of other AG hats and they turned out well. This is what I do for a lined hat. Basically you put together two hats - the lining "hat" and the hat, place right sides together and sew around but leave a gap to turn right side out, turn right side out, push your lining to the inside of the hat, and sew close to the rim of your hat to close the gap that was left open. Much, much easier than trying to sew inside the hat to close the lining and gives a nicer appearance, I think. Also, as with many patterns, it is much better if the designers would use drawings instead of pictures to explain the steps in sewing the pattern.
Made the jumper (in wool) and the hat in heavy cotton plaid. Hat instructions were a bit confusing at first but the hat turned out beautifully. The jumper also looks great.
I have purchased quite a few patterns from Pixie Faire recently. I love the designs. The instructions are easy to follow. The price is most reasonable and instant delivery - how can you beat that!
