The Twist on a Theme Dress is a knee length basic dress with a twist! There are several options to choose from, including: flat or coiled twist, long or short sleeves, dressy or casual, and basic or fully lined options.
Perhaps the most fun of all is the opportunity to pair different textures and colors of woven fabrics. The possibilities are endless! The Basic Version employs a neckline facing and simple hook and loop closure, and the Fully Lined Version calls for an invisible zipper closure and hand sewn hem.

I tried this pattern for a Christmas dress, and loved it! I’m always a little leary of the fit on a sheath type dress, but this one fit perfect. Following another suggestion, I did add 1/8” to each arm sleeve, tapering to nothing at the top, just so I was sure my granddaughter wouldn’t struggle with getting it over the doll’s hand. While the twist makes this dress very unique, I could also picture making it without the twist at all, for a simple dress with a scarf or blazer or maybe a belt … lots of options! Instructions are well written and very detailed. Certainly a different style dress to add to your pattern collection!
I love the design of this dress. I made to simple unlined, long-sleeved dress. Brocade and bridal satin. The twist detail on the front, and the contrast band really add drama to this dress. This is a fairly easy dress to sew, sews quickly, and fit was great. I lengthened the dress, and also added about 1/4" extra to the width of the side contrast panels so more of the contrast fabric would show from the front. I added Pellon tricot interfacing to the brocade to make it more stable to sew - boy did it fray before the interfacing was fused to the fabric. One think I noticed was that the right sleeve was a little tight fitting over an AG doll's right hand. Consider adding 1/4" to the sleeve. The left sleeve was fine.
