Lizzie - Wrap Dress, Top & Capris 18" Doll Clothes Pattern

1   |

The Lizzie pattern is a cute, modern-looking design yet appearances can be deceptive:

The dress design is actually inspired by a 1930s “overall” (a kind of apron for housework that was worn over clothing) and the top and capris option owes its origin to a photo of a 1930s filmstar wearing a pair of silk pyjamas.

So you see, some fashions never change!

The Lizzie Dress or top is a Kimono style wrap that fastens at the waist with snaps or hook and loop tape.

The cap sleeves are cut in one with the bodice. The waist is defined with rick rack or ribbon trim and the back has a center seam and two small waist darts to enhance the fit at the waist.

The edges of the dress or top are bound with contrasting bias tape and a fancy button or bow is added at the waist wrap point to add further design detail.

The Capris have a side seam to ensure a closer fit, and feature split cuffs, ruffles and an elasticated waist. As at the waist of the dress or top, ribbon or rick rack trim could be used instead of the ruffles which cover the cuff seam.

This PDF sewing pattern allows you the opportunity to mix and match printed and plain fabrics to great effect, and is a good way to gain confidence in using bias binding and other trims.

Have fun creating your unique outfit. The only limit is your own creativity!

The Lizzie pattern is also available for Disney Toddler® and Disney Animator® dolls

Recommended Fabrics:  Woven fabrics: e.g. quilters cottons, lawn, poplin, broadcloth, polycotton blends

Supplies Needed:
-View A (Wrap Dress): You will need three toning fat quarters, or the equivalent in large scraps left over from dressmaking. You will need to use one of the fat quarters to make your own bias binding, but could use a pack of half inch wide prefolded double fold bias binding if you prefer. You will also need some ribbon or rick rack trim for the waistline of the dress, two snaps or a 3½ inch strip of anti-snag hook and loop tape for the waist closure and either a ribbon rose or fancy button to enhance the wrap closure.

-View B (Wrap Top and Capri Pants): You will need three toning fat quarters of fabric, or the equivalent in large scraps left over from dressmaking. You will need to use the remainder of one of the fat quarters to make your own bias binding, or you could use a pack of half inch wide prefolded bias binding if you prefer. You will also need some ribbon or rick rack trim for the waistline of the dress, two snaps or a 3½ inch strip of anti-snag hook and loop tape for the waist closure and either a ribbon rose or fancy button to enhance the wrap closure. You will also need 9½ inches of three eighths of an inch wide elastic for the pants waist. If you prefer to use ribbon for the pants ruffle then you will need a yard of one inch wide ribbon.

Lizzie Wrap Dress

Love this pattern. Originally purchased for Wellie Wisher and instantly made 2 dresses, but lined the top with repeat fabric (need to add 1/4" if not using bias tape). Now have purchased same pattern for AG Doll. An added bonus never mentioned in the instructions is the skirt pattern. I've made just the "wrap around skirt pattern" lined and turned (with a belt added) to make a reversible wrap skirt. Could also finish with the bias tape. I wonder if my granddaughter will notice that I keep repeating this pattern in several variations? Thank you for this great pattern! Sandy
