NOT! Your Mama's Overalls 18" Doll Clothes

20   |

Finally—an overall pattern for 18” dolls that really fits*!  This versatile PDF pattern is loaded with options for customization:  shorts with cuffs, full-length pants, an easy elasticized waist, a contemporary drawstring waist with real grommets, and two separately drafted patterns for straps that offer the choice of using commercially-made purchased buckles or button-covered snaps.

All versions of the basic overall feature pants, a waistband, a front bib, and an option for straps—but the rest of the choices are up to you!  Make them as simple or as detailed as you wish:  you can add topstitching, working pockets (cargo, jean, and a front bib pocket), a back bib with straight or rounded strap ends using overall buckles or buttons, and an easy elasticized waist or a fully functional drawstring waist.  Suggestions are also given for straps using ribbon and “D” rings for an even simpler solution.

Mini-tutorials and sewing tips are also embedded in the pattern.  You’ll see how you can substitute buttonholes for grommets, learn an easy method to sew and turn rounded strap ends, and find many links for locating supplies.  The research has been done for you—you just get to have fun sewing!

Not suitable for fabrics with a one-way print because of the overall straps.

*This pattern was sized on a recently purchased American Girl doll.  Measurements for older American Girl dolls and similar-style dolls should be checked for possible fitting adjustments.

Great overalls

Pattern requires a lot of stitching for an authentic overall look but the end result is good. I made a short version without the front pocket because the fabric was very busy. The blue overalls are paired with the free T shirt pattern for Journey Girl dolls. I didn't attempt the draw string waist but I'm happy with the look.

So Cute

These little overalls are time consuming because of all the top stitching but so worth it. They go together easy and the fit is great. I made the first pair in a cute animal print and am now working on a denium pair with the buckles. Very cute pattern; just take your time when sewing and you'll be pleased with the outcome!
