A beautifully fitted high-waisted crochet bodice atop a froth of net, creates this gorgeous and oh-so-easy, dress. Using fingering cotton yarn for the bodice, a minimal amount of hand-sewing on a skirt with no hems and no seams, this easy PDF pattern works up very quickly, has buttons in back and satin ribbon threaded through the waist. By adding a little wand or a pair of ballet slippers, a fairy princess or a pretty ballerina costume is created. This pattern is designed to fit 18” soft-bodied dolls such as American Girl®.

Requirements: For the Bodice, I used Elle Crochet no. 5 – one 50g ball renders three bodices.

This is a wonderful pattern that is easy to make if you have a bit of experience in crochet before you begin. For those of you in the U.S, I used a steel size 2, 2.5 mm hook and #10 crochet cotton thread for the top. I just experimented with hooks until I found one that would made a one inch starting chain using 9 chains. When finished with the crochet bodice, I blocked to the dimensions in the pattern on a piece of styrofoam house insulation covered with a towel. It was a tiny bit bigger than the stated dimensions, but I pinned it to the correct size and just steam blasted with my iron like crazy until it shrunk to the perfect size For the skirt, I made the mistake of buying netting that ended up being waaaaay too transparent. Unfortunately I didn’t realize that until I had finished cutting enough circles for 3 dresses. I then went to Hobby lobby and bought chiffon, which worked really well. At the time of this writing, hobby lobby has really nice and inexpensive chiffon in many colors that drapes really well. I think I will go back and buy a bunch more in different colors and precut them so I make make this dress again while traveling. Whatever fabric you choose for the skirt, I highly recommend using several craft clips to hold the top of your strips together before you begin cutting. When you cut the circles out, make sure you use a rotary cutter with a new blade.
This dress turned out very sweet but as others have said checking gauge is extremely important. I used fingering and a #2 steel hook and crocheted very tightly but still had to leave out one group of shells. I would not recommend fingering. If I ever try again I would try bedspread cotton. I also had difficulty getting the right fullness in the skirt. It was much trial and error but I would recommend for anyone who likes to try new techniques.
Beautiful, really have not tried it yet!
Just finished making this dress. Imperative to get the proper crochet cotton. Used 1.75mm crochet hook (pattern says 2.25mm). top was still a little bigger. Not the easiest oattern to work with vut end results are beautiful.
I tested this pattern and am very impressed at how my dress turned out. Looks beautiful on - love the delicate lace look of the crochet and frothy net skirt.
