I've done this twice now, the first time I just used to bodice as a top. I didn't put the sleeves on and lined it so it's reversible and it turned out pretty cute. The second time, I made it according to the directions and I found that adding the skirt raised the level of difficulty. I don't understand why the instructions say to sew the back seam of the ruffles leaving a 1 inch gap at the top, or why I had to attach the ruffled skirt in the round. It would have been far easier to attach the ruffles flat and then sew up the back seam. The back of the bodice is so long anyway that leaving a little of the ruffle open isn't necessary. I also did a better job getting the point on the front of the bodice the first time, by starting at one end and working all the way around it instead of starting in the middle and working towards both ends. I will probably make it again, but I will do it my way!
I had the fabric cut out for a while and finally had time to sew it. I found the photos clear and detailed instructions very helpful. Apart from a miscalculation on my part ( cut the under ruffle too narrow) the dress went together quite quickly and without a hitch. I made 2 at the same time. In one dress I replaced the ruffle with a wider lace and instead of cutting bias strips for the sleeve cuffs , I used bias binding in a contrasting colour. Because I had cut the under ruffle strip too narrow , I added the missing width by attaching a band of contrast fabric to bring to the correct depth. You could have a lot of fun with contrasting fabrics and different types of laces and trims when making this dress. The neckline was the only tricky part , I followed the instructions MORE carefully with the second dress and the subtle shape was much better.
Easy and quick. Makes up so darling!
I have had this pattern on the work table to make, finally did it! I love the pattern, great directions! Great fit! Easy, just follow the directions. I have different dolls to fit and I think this one would be easy to fit the all! I love your patterns!
