One of my favorite cultural traditions is going to my parents’ hometown in Mexico in August. There is a celebration in honor of the town’s patron, Our Lady of Assumption. The celebrations are from August 1-16 with the main day being the 15th. Every day, a different group of people (the bakers, the aguacateros (avocado orchard owners), etc.) sponsor the celebrations in the church and in the town plaza. The whole town is there and there’s live music, delicious food, rides and games for the little ones. Everyone has an amazing time.

One family tradition is from my Great-Grandfather who purchased a piece of pottery that is a sleigh. He would place cuts of pine and other trees around it and place tiny presents in the sleigh. Then my grandfather did the same. My grandfather gave the sleigh to my mother who did the same thing but added a Santa Claus and any reindeer she could find. I now have the sleigh, and this year found a Santa ornament that looked just like the Santa ornament that my mother used, (which has since crumbled) . I got some reindeer at the dollar store and transformed them with felt and accessories. Placed greenery around, and, now I have what my mother and other generations did at the start of the Christmas season!

My favorite cultural tradition is reading Christmas stories on Christmas eve. I’m not so sure that is a cultural tradition as much as a family tradition, one book we read came from my great grandmother and is almost 100 years old! This is a cultural tradition, but is a family tradition. On Christmas eve everyone gets to choose a dish to have at a Christmas Eve buffet we eat prior to Christmas Eve church service. For the kids, this will become their Christmas dinner, as they get to pick and choose whatever they want whenever they want (between bites of candy and playing with new toys) We then fix an adult meal for the adults to share, with adult conversation. The kids are happy, the adults are happy, and this tradition has now been passed down through the generations to be a family cultural tradition!

My favorite cultural tradition is to have all available family over for Christmas Eve. Not so traditional part except latest generations is we eat home made milkshakes and pizza.

I would say this time of of year I celebrate a Christian holiday but nothing too seriously. I would love to to see some different cultural outfits for both boy and girl dolls so that couple outfits could be made. This past summer I made 4 different Caribbean couple outfits for both male and female dolls from scratch with lots of research.

Thanksgiving is my personal favorite Cultural and Family Tradition. The coming together of people to give Thanks for the Bountiful Blessings they’ve received throughout the year and the sharing of Love and Fellowship are soul-mending! I would LOVE to see outfits from the Colonial Era and designs which reflect the Celebration of Giving!

My favorite cultural tradition is decorating the house for the holidays. We’ve got decorations from Germany, Guatemala, England, Belize, Mexico, among others and it’s always fun to reminisce about where and when we got each piece. I would love to see a traditional Guatemalan traje pattern to honor my daughter’s Guatemalan heritage.

The cultural tradition we take part in is the celebration of Jesus Christ on Christmas. We love to read the story of the birth of our Savior. I like the Eskimo culture and would like to see some items from that culture. Thank you! happy New Year!

I don’t have a particular cultural tradition that I celebrate. I would like to see costumes from other countries. Poland would be fun since I am Polish.

I would like to have more patterns available depicting the Civil War era. Although I’m of Black Irish and English descent, I like the long full dresses of that period in our history.

PF already has so many wonderful cultural patterns, but I’d like to see them resized for various dolls instead of just AG. There aren’t nearly enough patterns available for Little Darling.
