Perfect Pockets - The Cargo Pocket Tutorial

Hi Everyone! This week I'm going to share a tutorial for adding a cargo pocket to any thing you might desire. Maybe you want to add pockets to a basic pair of pants to give them a more rugged outdoorsy look, or you'd like to add a pocket to the front of a basic tote bag. This style pocket is pretty easy to add to pretty much anything! This tutorial can work for any garment for any size doll or person. Watch the video below for a step by step look at this technique.

Pattern Overview: The Liberty Jane catalog doesn't include a cargo pockets in any of the designs. But you can add one to these patterns:

  • Liberty Jane Basic Pants (Yoga Pants pattern)
  • Liberty Jane Cross Body Purse (different style cargo pocket, if the purse seems to small try enlarging the pattern 25% to make a slightly bigger bag)

    Resources (other tips & tricks):

    • Tiny 4" embroidery scissors are a must! I try to keep a super sharp pair on hand at all times. They are great for trimming and clipping very close to the stitching.
    • A good steam iron!
    • A good pair of scissors
    • Steam A Seam

     Week Four task:

    • Watch the video and then follow along and practice making your own cargo pocket! You can use any of the patterns listed below or simply practice on a scrap like I've done in the video.
    • Post questions as comments under this Facebook Group Post - please preface your question by stating the the pattern used if applicable. Post finished projects as well  - we'd love to see them!
