Boy Dolls: An Overview
For years doll fans were making their own boy dolls by replacing the wigs on their American Girl® dolls, always wondering why they couldn’t just purchase a boy doll to complete their collection. A few years back, boy dolls started to become more popular as manufacturers such as American Girl® and Our Generation® released this new category of doll. If you have ever wondered, “What are all the different types of boy dolls out there?” “Who makes them and where can I buy them?” or “How do they compare to the girl dolls?” hopefully this article will answer those questions.
Below is an overview of the most popular boy dolls in the 16-inch to 18-inch category. Some brands offer more extensive collections of boy dolls which cannot be featured in their entirety here, so we have chosen our favorites to show here.

The Liberty Jane Jeans Bundle for 18-Inch Boy Dolls features step-by-step patterns for making both bootcut and skinny jeans. Upcycle your old jeans to make your doll's wardrobe feel even more authentic, or use your favorite denim fabric to make this awesome wardrobe staple.
Most boy dolls are made by manufacturers by simply changing the face mold and hair of a doll, without any change to the size and shape of the doll body. For this reason, most boy dolls will be the same size as any girl doll from the same brand.
Get the pattern: Here an American Girl® Girl and Boy Doll are both shown wearing the Mercury Flightsuit from the pattern made by Forget Me Not Designs. As you can see by this example, the boy doll and girl doll have the same size and shape body and can wear the same size clothing.
Some designs look great on both boy and girl dolls, like many uniforms and sports clothing. Other patterns have been designed specifically for boy dolls to get that classic masculine styling and fit.

It’s nice to see the boy dolls in a contest. I’d love it if you’d share information about sizing on the boy versions of some of your older patterns such as the jeans bundle and the button up shirt. I know the shirt is less fitted, but is the same true on the designed for boy’s jeans and other pants pattern?

My Siblings® Dolls
Most of the dolls I have, are blondes and red heads, so I like any of the boy dolls with dark hair. It would be a great addition to my collection. I would really like a boy doll. I used to have more of the girl dolls, but we had 4 circumstances in our Church, where they were needed. One little girl’s dad just passed away, one to a missionaries daughter who wanted to learn to sew, so I gave her some of my patterns and one doll. The other was to another missionaries daughter, who, well you can just tell, wanted a little girl doll to take with her. I left the potluck, put her in my prettiest dress and brought her back in time. I was left with one American girl doll. Last summer, I found a beautiful red headed doll (A.G.) that I bought. So, as you can see, I went from a lot of dolls to two. Which is probably more than a lot of people have, but I thought I would at least enter the contest. Melody Poe
My Grandson has an American Boy Doll. For Christmas, I made his doll hockey outfit, skates, puck and hockey stick of his favorite hockey time and embroidered his name and number on the back of the hockey jersey. I made boy doll pajamas, a duffel bag, sleeping bag and pillow. The patterns I used were all from pixiefaire.com. He loved them.
I like the Gotz Parker doll because he reminds me of my grandson when he was younger.
American Girl Truly Me #75 is my favorite!
