2020 Spring Trend Colors

The On-Trend Colors for Spring 2020

Utilizing the popular colors of the season is a great way to make any design feel of-the-moment. The following color swatches come straight from the Pantone Trend Report from this season’s New York Fashion Week. Play with combinations of analogous colors like the blues and greens together, or create a bold look by pairing complimentary colors like greens with reds, or orange with blue.

Spring 2020 Trend #1: Utility Pockets

Spring Trends Pockets Doll Clothes Patterns

From left to right: Hermès, Reformation, and Alexa Chung

Sew The Trend: Our first featured spring trends is Utility Pockets. We’ve collected the perfect inspiration images of loosely fitted jackets with an abundance of patch pockets and hardware details like metal buttons and buckles. These jackets can be made from a variety of medium to lightweight fabrics like twill or light corduroy. For fun contrast, try pairing this military-inspired jacket with sweet and feminine details like a light and ruffley dress.

As shown above, some great patterns to use to sew this trend include:

Go Everywhere Anorak for 18-inch dolls from JenAshley Doll Designs

(Also check out the 14.5” Doll Version!)

Cape Cod Overshirt from Just 4 Us Dolls

Spring 2020 Trend #2: Strong Sleeves

Sew this trend with the patterns featured above:

Spring Trend #4: Wrap Details

Spring Trends Wrap Dress Doll Clothes Patterns

Sew The Trend: The Wrap Details trend is perfect for those who love all things girly and sweet. But if that’s not your doll’s style, edge it up by pairing the look with tough leather accessories. This trend is perfect for showcasing bright new prints or your favorite color solids in fabrics like linen, cotton, or other lightweight fabrics.

A few great patterns to sew the Wrap Details Trend include:

Bellview Dress and Romper from Love From Lola

It’s A Wrap Dress from Ardently Admire Doll Attire

Spring 2020 Trend #5: Belted Jacket

Oh no! Not big, poofy 80’s sleeves! I graduated from high school in ‘89 and for some reason it’s the big sleeves and poofy hair that I can’t recover from, lol! Moderately puffy sleeves in little girls dress are fine, though. What I DO like the most are the color scheme, wrap dresses and the white dresses. :)

My mother made me shirt waist dresses when I was growing up and made an umbrella pocket and stitched bias tape for the handle and bow at the bottom (top) of the umbrella. The umbrella pocket was upside down on the dress. I would like to see this pattern for the AMG. The dresses were made using check cotton fabric. The bias tape trim was black.

This one is a little hard, I kept trying to remember what patterns I already had and how I could combine trends in my head. I like the white dress, thankfully my doll models are not nearly as mess prone as I. (…wanders off to the fabric bins thinking about a pretty white wrap dress with awesome sleeves and a chive green belted jacket with cargo pockets… )
