UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who entered our giveaway! The winner is #21, Carmelita, who said, "Roses are on the top of my list. I not only love the way they look but most smell really good, too." Great choice, Carmelita -- hard to go wrong with a classic like that! We'll be in touch with you soon via email. :)
Want to make your doll some fun new hair flowers? Then this tutorial is for you!
You'll need some sheer polyester fabric (this is important because polyester, unlike other fabrics, will melt); then, dig up some beads, bobby pins, a candle, and something sharp and pointy. I'm using an awl.
Start by cutting circles out of the sheer fabric. I cut squares, then folded the squares in fourths and rounded the corners. In any case, these circles don't have to be perfect! :)
Next comes the fire part (and I'm sorry I forgot to get pictures of this step...) Light your candle, and carefully hold the edge of one circle near the flame. Melt the raw edges of each circle. Take your time with this step, and experiment to figure out just how close to the flame your fabric needs to be, to melt. Of course, be sure you have a grownup to help you with this...
(It's also a good idea to have a bowl of water nearby, as a place to dunk burning fabric -- you probably won't have this problem, though!)
Once you've melted the edges of all your fabric circles, find a few that go well together and stack them. Big-medium-smaller tends to work well. :) Thread a needle, and take a couple stitches through the middle to secure.
Stitch on a few beads!
Tie off your thread, and poke a hole in the bottom layer of your flower with the awl. Slide one half of a bobby pin through the hole.
And there you have it! A finished bobby pin! Slide it into your doll's hair and admire your handiwork :)
**Giveaway closed! Thanks everybody for entering!**
NOW: would you like to win an assortment of these fun flowered bobby pins? We have three bobby pins that we'd love to send you, if only you will leave us a comment below telling us what your favorite flower is!
(I love pansies, but unfortunately, saying you love pansies too won't increase your chances of winning -- I'll pick the winner randomly. But we'll have something awesome in common!)
We'll pick a winner on Monday, June 16th, and get in touch with them via email.
Thanks for following along, and have fun!
